Clothing items you didn't know existed but now cannot live without

Another forum had this thread, but its full of weird street clothes and most of the items are stuff I wouldn't say improves my life so drastically that I cannot live without them.

I'll start.

Felted trouser bar for suit hangers. source: www.thehangerproject.com

The felted trouser bar just holds the pants so well and effortlessly. The wide shoulder flares are nice, but its the trouser bar that "improves my life."

Oxford cloth boxers.

I just got some in from Brooks Brothers from their semi-annual sale. Reaction: How have I lived my whole life without knowing the luxury that is luxury boxers!?

The North Face Gore Windstopper jacket. I use mine everyday in the cooler months as a perfect sweater, layer and lounge wear. The version I have is almost 15 years old now and is bullet-proof. One of my favorite clothing items.

Bailey Fur Felt Hats.
I had heard of the big names, everyone has. You know, like Stetson, Borsalino et al.
I had never heard of Bailey till I bought one at Hats Plus in Chicago for my Christmas present.
Wow. The quality, the fit, the style. It's a beauty, and I actually prefer it over my Stetson.
Keeps the noggin quite warm in the worst of winds off of Lake Michigan in quite a classy way.

+1 (or actually +1000)

I just semi-retired mine for an OR Motto jacket. It is like a Windstopper, breathes the same, but is waterproof and stretchy for easy movement on the slopes.

Adding to my own list.

Merino Wool dress socks. Specifically ones made by Robert Talbott. Incredibly cheap if you find them on sale and they perform wonderfully. I need more!!!

I don't, though one of our illustrious forum members has and apparently got a great shave! He tried to persuade me to do the same but, though intrigued, I declined. I think mine's just about sharp enough to do a decent job too. What really put me off in the end was the thought of the absolute bollocking I'd get from my dad if anything went wrong.

Windshirts. I live in the northwest and have about 5 of them. I wear them instead of carrying an umbrella.

Pocket Squares. Okay I guess technically I knew they existed, but never considered wearing them ... now, I feel half naked without one!

Pantherella OTC dress socks. Dang fine hoisery that stays up no matter what. :thumbup1:

House shoes.
I walked around barefoot all the time in my house. One xmas, the wife gives me house shoes and now I can't seem to put a bare foot on the floor.

One thing for me is a Pea Coat. I never had any interest in them until recently. About a year ago, I got one on a whim. Now, it is about the only winter coat I wear.
