Christmas sippin'

Hello-

First post in the speakeasy. I'm looking for something to drink slowly during the holidays. I don't want to mix anything, so probably something straight up (or maybe OTR). I don't care for creamy stuff like Bailey's or eggnog, maybe a whiskey or rum...but something a little different to share with the family. Thanks...this is a great site!

Try a bottle of Madeira. It's kind of like sherry, but different ... better! And it lasts forever once the bottle is opened, so you don't have to worry about it going bad before the holidays are over.

It involves a little mixing (very little) but for Thanksgiving I warmed up some apple cider in a big coffee maker (the 40 cup type). I put a bottle of brandy next to it for the adults to add to their drinks--we had kids around who wanted the cider so we kept the two separate. I had cinamon sticks to stir the drinks with. It was festive, tasty, and very easy.

Grand Marnier in a snifter. Warm is best, but go easy - sipping only, and stop after one or two small ones. Also, how about a sake, served hot?

Try a snifter of a nice Cognac. Hennessy, Remy Martin or Courvoisier should fit the bill.

+1 Gotta agree with the Cognac.. nothing beats it on a cold winter evening by the fire. If you can find it, look for the Remy Martin 1738 Accord Royal. Wonderful stuff! :thumbup1:

A good Cognac would be nice, although I've had a craving for Calvados lately (which the ABC stores in NC don't seem to carry). Sigh.

Hot sake also hits the spot in the winter (100-104F), but don't use a good one. The interesting characteristics of a quality sake are lost when you heat it.

Well, we had a bottle of Glenfiddich, but ran out of it last night.

This morning, we made a pot of coffee -- and I'm using Bailey's for creamer...

So...besides the normal Scotch, something like Khalua and cream, or Amaretto on the rocks is always tasty around Christmas time for something a little sweeter and different.

I'm presently enjoying Jameson mixed with Coca-Cola! I know you said you don't want a mixer but I think Jameson might do it for ya!
