Chinese DE safety razors

With all the fun being had with the great value of Frank Shaving brushes from China it is worth remembering that they need to shave a lot of people every day and so must have a pretty big production of razors, some of which make it sometimes to the west.

These are the Chinese brands I have come across:

Weishi
Shenglong
SHV65
Timor
Ming Shi
Flying Eagle

Does anyone have any information on these or on any other Chinese razors? There could be some fun, low cost, experimenting to be had here.

I got a Flying Eagle razor off of eBay for 99 cents plus $5 for shipping. I used it with some Blue Bird blades that I had from a recent buy on BST and got a great shave from the razor.

Chinese - Razor - Fun - Experimenting. Not four words usually found together :w00t:

Had a Weishi - wasn't bad. Wasn't great either.....

Concord 3 piece razors are from China. Got one and it does pretty well. Lot like a Tech. I use it as my vacation/travel razor.

There's always the Gillette Chine DE...

$10.99 shipped.

I've got a Flying Eagle Tech clone in a little box with a fish hologram on the lid.

Open up the box and there is a mirror on a springloaded hinge that has space on the back for a blade. The razor is held in a red plastic tray, and is about halfway between a travel Tech and a full size handle. It shaves OK, but with the aluminum handle it is a little light for my tastes.

It's a funky little package.

Besides the Ming Shi, Flying Eagle, and Weishi (the Weishi being debatable) there seems to be very little in the razor market made in China that is actually usable. I have seen a lot of Chinese, and Indian made razors on Ebay that were 100% useless, and would rip your face to pieces if you attempted to shave with them.

I have no interest in wasting my money on sub-par pieces, and worst yet ripping my face up with them.

i have a nanjie de, in my rotation, not bad for me at least.

i was told recently they can be bought for 3 dollars cdn in china.

Derby razor is made in China and seems pretty decent.

Just as a heads up, that is actually the same razor being referred to above as the Ming Shi. :w00t:

I have owned two of them in the past, and found the Ming Shi to be vastly superior to the Weishi (which is so mild I find it to be useless).

There is also the Vincent which according to the review, isn't worth it either. I've heard that the quality of the Parker razors have improved. So I've heard.

I wonder if part of that is the Chinese tendency to minimal body hair. Less hair, maybe a milder razor would be preferred.

The Shenglong that I have is a Superspeed copy and it is awful. Do not buy and do not use.
Everyone knows the Weishi, another SS copy, a lovely piece of engineering. Gives a great shave when you find the right angle.

There are some eBay Buy it Nows for Chinese razors.
The Flying Eagle (which they also call a Kwang Yung) with the drop down mirror box: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Older-Kwang-Yung-SAFETY-RAZOR-KIT-w-MIRROR-FLYING-EAGLE-/250367765154
The Ming Shi which is on my buy list!: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ming-Shi-Double-Edge-Safety-Razor-Derby-Shaver-Derby-/370255940728 I think this one could be interesting.
The SHV65, which could be one of the others with a different name put on it. Or not. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SHV65-Safety-Razor-Gunmetal-/360208031775
Concord razors can be bought very cheaply indeed: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-x-Concord-Double-Edge-Safety-Razor-w-o-blades-NIP-/280497110109
There are plenty of Vincents on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-VINCENT-DOUBLE-EDGE-SHAVING-SAFETY-RAZOR-DORCO100PC-/380259392218
And finally the Nanjie: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NANJIE-SAFETY-RAZOR-CHROMEPLATED-5-Gillette-Blades-/270568141827

The Timor razors are sold by an English shaving retailer who I think is banned here.

So that is, potentially, 9 different Chinese razors so far! A change from using the ubiquitous Merkurs and Gillettes and pretty cheap to buy. It would be interesting to get more comparisons and reviews.

Does anyone have any more information on these or any other Chinese razors?

I just bought a Concord from Singapore. At that price it would be rude not to.
I will report back on it when it arrives.

i was told recently they can be bought for 3 dollars cdn in china.

I saw one at a store here, I think it was something like 1.75 Euro .

Then I picked it up, opened and closed the TTO head. I just put it back and got out... Very poor quality :thumbdown.

Had a weishi, but sold it, and a few weeks ago picked up a flying like the one in the picture, for a fiver at a antique store, not used it yet though.
