Chinese bargain?

Hey guys
Did you know you can buy a brand new "Gillette" Aluminium Fat-handled travel tech in box for 50 yuan/ 50 pence? I don't like the shortness of the handle but the one I saw'd stood up to several year's worth of duty and looked fine. Mingshi all over again, eh?

As long as the initial quality of a razor is there, it should stand up to decades of normal use. The problem is that a lot of those cheapy razors are hit-or-miss quality wise and it becomes a crapshoot.

I picked up a couple of "Keneth Cole" watches for $12 and a "Diessel" backpack for $8 along with the usual chops and other tourist nonsense one procures at the Stanley market in Hong Kong. I'd be suspect that "Gillette" (or Gilette / Gillete) razor made in China is in fact not a real Gillette... though some knockoff products are surprisingly functional if inconsistent in quality.

Any links to the actual razor in question, photos, etc?

That should've been 5 yuan, or 50p BTW. No links or pics. I saw it in a colleague's bathroom and he told me they're pretty ubiquitous in the more downmarket places. Seemed like real aluminium, had the classic diamond knurling unlike the ball-end Tech and was small and in a metal case. No further info but if I see one I'll update you. I'd be astonished if it was a real Gillette but it's pretty hard to mess up machining aluminium. As I said, it'd been used for years and was holding up very well. Better than some HDs by the sound of things
