cheaper open comb for heavy beard

i am looking for suggestiond for an open comb vitage or otherwise which would suit someone with a heavy beard? allot of the open combs tend to be on the expensive side, additionally would you use one for every day use?

Hi Subcutaneous, I've used vintage open comb razors ( Gillette old types). I've tried them only a few times, and wasn't that impressed. I've had an open comb Merkur HD for a couple months now, and it's my daily shaver (to answer your question ). I bought mine from westcoastshaving.com, and was very satisfied. I know it will be hard for you to find one at the right price, because of shipping. Hope you find a good one that suits you.

+1 on old type. Usually cheap.

The NEW is probably your best bet if you want something long term.

If I could only have one razor it would be an open comb.

The least expensive would be the Old Type with common handle.
The easiest to find is probably the New with fat handle.

I would try to find a NEW. They give a great shave. Bob's razorworks sells a Bull Mastiff that is my favorite. $68 with a NEW head.

Forget the D/E pretenders.:wink:Get an open comb Gem Micromatic.:biggrin:It shaves circles around all of them with a bit of practice.

You have quite a few options my friend. This is my favorite open comb:

I had one of those but sold it unused since the handle felt slippery to me. Maybe I should have given it a chance.

I like the 1912 GEM but their "open comb" has a bar across the tips of the comb so probably isn't what you are after. Never used the Micromatic open comb but it might be just the thing for you. The combination of the open comb with the SE blade should really do a the job for you. A good SE blade is fantastic.
