Changing Handle on Razor

I am noobish, and am ordering the DE89 razor (based on its consensus as an industry standard razor). My question, however, is - can I change out the handle of the razor and should I? I know for the DE89s available they lack texture to maintain a nice grip (they are usually chrome, or lined chrome).

Am I thinking of this in the wrong way, or is this usual practice? Please do let me know as I'd like to proceed with my purchase ASAP.

Thanks in advance....

I have a smooth handle DE89, and I've never thought it felt slippery. Some people rub their fingertips on an alum block to help with their grip.

I did put a couple of different handles on it (Tradere, BRW), but I went back to the stock handle.

It's a very nice razor, btw. I'm sure you'll enjoy it no matter what handle you end up with.

Never had any problems with the handle. However, if you want to try a different handle, the Weber Bulldog handle I have works fine with the DE89 head.

Never ever had any problems with the handle of my EJs DE89 (plated, lined, Barley).

Some people do change the handle and it's OK. But for me it's kind of separating a couple.... Sad...:biggrin1:

I know a bunch of people buy the lined chrome handle for the EJde89 thinking that it will be grippier, but I've owned both the smooth chrome and lined chrome, and I find the lined chrome to be more slippery.

Anyways, there are so many different choices for handles these days. You can buy a handle from Tradere, UFO, Above The Tie, Weber, Ikon, or even the newer Griest Shaving GS1 handle. All of those are made from stainless steel and the cheapest ones are the Weber and Griest, starting at $38.

If you want a cheaper option, you can always purchase a SABI T2 razor or the new Matador razor. The are made of brass with chroming on the exterior. It will match the look of your EJ razor head better. They also go for $25ish. And they have good grip and substantial weight. My SABI T2 handle is 75 grams, which to put in perspective weighs more than the EJde89 razor as a whole.

I will upload a picture of my EJde89 with Sabi handle later when I get home so you can see what it looks like.
