So, which one is better or you would prefer and why? I am just curious. I have heard a lot about lanolin or tallow products and I am beginning to wonder whether it is worth to try.

Dang; this is a tough one. Use both regularly. I'll go with MWF because when Cella is used with a brush (it more or less has to be as its a dense cream) it tends to be a pain in the butt to clean out the unused glob of product that didn't lather up.

Cella, because it doesn't require me to have 3 advanced degrees just to get it to lather. I could never get MWF to properly lather, it did leave my face feeling wonderful however.

Well, considering they are 1a and 1b of my favorite soaps that would be hard to pick. Probably MWF by an edge. Leaves my face feeling great, though cella is no slouch.

I recently had a decision like yourself....(FWIW I just got done with a nice evening shave with the MWF.)
There are just so many great threads, post's, and reviews praising the MWF....just too hard for me to pass up on giving it a try.
Never regretted the decision.
It's a great moisturizer, and my face feels great afterward.
Razor passes nicely, and plenty of rich lather... I will say that it can dry up on ya if your water is too hot..and/or the multitude of other potential "issues" that can arise...but that's true of any soap out there.

Good luck on the decision.:biggrin1:

Even when I really like Cella a lot,Ill go for MWF.For me its easy to make lather with it and its a little bit more protective with my skin than Cella.

Loading your brush directly on Cella instead of pinching a little off eliminates this issue.

There is also no better excuse to try. tallow and lanolin are the only items I ever replace and will always store.

I'm probably alone on this, but I don't quite see the big deal about tallow. I get a great lather from tallow soaps, but I seem to get just about as good a lather from, say, Proraso, which is definitely non-tallow. Maybe the lather I get from tallow soaps is very slightly better, but I don't think it's enough that I'd be able to discern it if you simply handed me a bowl of lather and asked me whether it came from a tallow soap or not (assuming I'm not allowed to use smell to determine its origin).

Cella. MWF doesn't yield a lather I can in all honesty shave with. (That's nought to do with making the lather, by the way.)

Which is true, even though it has to be said that Proraso 'cheats' by adding other surfactants than the simple fatty acids (SLS for one); and that it is a cream which allows for different fatty acids to be employed. The problem is that tallow is ascribed magical properties by the community: if there is no tallow in it it just can't be good etc., you know the mantra. I'll add that it isn't quite as easy to conjure up a formula without tallow when the goal is making a hard soap, but it is by no means impossible, especially if you use slightly different ingredients than off-the-shelf ones.

Somehow it never ceases to amaze me that real expensive shaving soaps like those fabricated by Floris and Penhaligon's don't capitalise on this: the price point is perfect to use those different ingredients.

I haven't tried MWF, but I have tried Cella (in the red tub) a few times and i don't recall having this issue. I treated it more like a hard soap than a cream when I lathered it up and just swirled it around a bunch of times and good to go... hmmm... is this an issue with the non-tub version?

I voted Cella...Even tho I'm allergic to Cella, the way it lathers and it's simplicity is amazing...I do like MWF, but it can be frustrating at times..

Guys,
The responses have been fantastic. Thanks everyone :thumbup1:. Based on the results (so far as of the writing of this message), MWF is winning it by a comfortable margin of ~2 to 1. But the Cella lovers really, really seem to love their soap/creme, which throws a wrench in my decision for choosing one, which speaks volumes to the fact that numbers alone aren't everything. Reason is the other 50% of the equation.

Based on everyone's response on both the MWF and Cella, I am so far inclined to give both of them a shot.

I have way too many soaps/cremes as it is, but I think this will be a worthwhile experiment.

1. Where do you guys get your Cella and/or MWF? in the case of MWF, I don't need a fancy bowl...I can use my own that I have so I guess a refill will do.

2. Have you guys tried mixing this with other soaps/creme and or glycerin to make uberlather or will these be standalone heavy lather cremes?

Plenty of vendors carry both. I like ordering from Bullgoose, he ships your stuff out ridiculously fast (better hope you don't want to change your order) and is fond of throwing in samples.

Lots of people like this site for MWF, as it's quite cheap:
