Caswell - Massey Christmas Gift

My darling wife was so good to me under the tree this year was a tube of Tabac shave cream for my travel kit, a new puck of Tabac for my mug, and a huge bottle of Tabac AS! I think she likes Tabac as much as I do!
There also was a puck of Caswell - Massey Sandalwood soap......well I needed a shave after the morning festivities so I retired to my bathroom for a shower and a shave....OMG....This stuff is terrible....I couldn't maintain a lather no matter how hard I tried! After my shave everyone said hey you got a little close the the blade huh! I had so many weepers it looked like I shaved with a rusty knife........I don't want to hurt my wifes feelings because she was so proud that she ventured out and found this wonderful smelling puck of shave soap......What do I do? There is no way I can use this stuff again it would probably be equally effective to dry shave. Has anyone had a good result with this stuff?

I bought a puck of their Greenbriar a couple of weeks ago. I have only used it once, thus far, but my experience was very similar. I was convinced it was my fault and I had hurried too much. However, your post disheartens me. I will give it another go, but it sounds like it will be a flop.

I really like their colognes and AS, but their shave soap is the terrible. I would use the stuff as a bath soap.

Their soaps are generally panned around here, but I've had good luck with Greenbriar soap if I bowl lather and add a dash of glycerin to the mix. Glycerin is cheap and makes the lather much creamier and lubricating. Frankly, I use it as an additive to a number of less expensive creams and soaps. C-M's goods are generally good smelling and a bargain, so don't give up on this one yet.
