Of all the DE, cart and SE razors I’ve used, the best shave came from a Schick E-2 with a Chinese Schick. My Gillette Slim on “9” With a Lord Plat was a very close second. If you’ve never shaved with a Schick injector you owe it to yourself to try. You will be impressed with the ease of use, the maneuverability of the head, it’s forgiving nature and the closeness of the shave.
I can only speculate that Gillette outsold Schick because of the smart marketing of giving them away to millions of servicemen in two World Wars, particularly WW1. Those doughboys were weaned away from straight shaving by the DE and they never went back, and bought those blades for decades thereafter. Schick wasn’t around until 1922 and even though Eversharp provided razors to servicemen in WW2, Gillette got there first.
