Care and feeding of a Hip Flask

My wife just bought me a stainless steel hip flask, and I was looking for some tips on its care.

Do I need to wash it out or is rinsing fine?

Also how long is it safe to store liquor in it? It's stainless steel so I assume it wont corrode. Is there a type of liquor that will keep best?

Thanks in advance!

Most everything I could find said not to store more than 3 days, but I don't think thats true. Aren't most spirits fermented in stainless steel casks? I can see not storing in pewter or some other reactive vessle, but stainless steel?

I guess I was hoping a chemist frequented these boards :(

I only rinse mine between uses but I mainly keep vodka in mine (for emergencies...). If you were walking around with a pocket full of creme demonth it might be a different story. And you would probably deserve everything you get.

For some reason long term storage has never been a problem.

When you leave stuff in there more than a few days, your booze undergoes a very noticable change in both taste and color... still drinkable, sure, but it does make you go "hmmmm, this might not be good for me".

Best to finish it off in one final triumphant swig as you stumble through the door at 4AM rather than have it sit around. :thumbup1:

It's never good for you. Thats why its called poison. Alcohol is toxic to every living organism on earth.

Maybe thats why I like it so much

Yes, that's true and all... however, trust me when I say that booze changes for the worse when left in the flask too long.
