What's new

Canadian NEWs arrived today!

$CNew1.jpg$cnew2.jpgI bought 2 on ebay from a seller in Nova Scotia. They arrived today safely packed and i just used some soapwater and a Barbecide bath afterwards. Sure theres coating damage and colour changes. One handle have a green spot that i guess is patina. But othervise just small things.
As i looked closer on the back plates on the razors i found out that booth were marked with -made in canada-. Didnt know they made razors there and because of that i have a feeling these NEWS are quite rare.

The pictures are taken with a mobile phone. I tried to make them better in the computer. Hope they give a hint of what fine razors they are.

Thanks blackman! I´m not expert in value of these NEWs but 2 with shipment for 32 usd is good enough for me. :)

Congrats nice find, and yes Gillette had a big plant in Canada as well and in England, New York etc. Either eay nice pick up.

I think we all get caught up in the price sometimes, but if it's something you love it doesn't matter if it's $32 or $132.

I love Old Types and NEWs. Just great razors. Open combs are the bees knees.

Thank you Ervargasny. Do you know if theres any difference between the NEWs because of the geographics? I´ve red as a example, that the english Superspeed razors are known to be a little bit more agressive than there american versions.

@blackman

Sure you have a point. But i´m a cheapskate and want to pay as little as possible. Would bother me if i paid overprice even for something thats well worth it. Well maybe not for a Red Eclipse. They look so awsome. :biggrin1:

Paying low realisticly speaking ofcourse. For swedish shavers without access to low priced treasures all around us, that you in Usa seems to have in easy reach. Theres hardly any small stores on the country here, where grandma and grandma sell you a old Sheraton for 2 bucks or a Fatboy for 8. I just wish it was.

I took a look at mr-razors great site. I got atleast a NEW Gold Special it seems. There was a paperbox with this writing. It could be as new as from 1940 because mr-razor got a similar with that date.

Thank you Chester and Craig. To my big suprise it turned out that the Long Comb shaves even better than the Short Comb. I´m sitting here with maybe the closest shave i´ve got ever. Sure after realising how pleasent it is to use i became a little bit to overentusiastic and now have a little skin rash on my jaw. But no cuts or nicks. Incredible smooth and easy to use. And the best thing about it is fantastic when it comes to removing the specially coarse hairs i have under my nose. No De razor i´ve used before have done that so effectly. I had to use the indian Guard cartridge razor for that and now i dont have to buy those anymore. :w00t:

About age. Well I´m not sure if they even marked those. Only clues i found on the backside on the nicest one is this. -Patented 1920,1926,1929,1931-. Does this mean its from 1931 or close?
Theres also the Gillette logo in a romb, A text thats its made in Canada and also -other patents pending-.

Checked the other one now. And its exatly the same text. So i dont know?

And when this paperbox with the text Gold Special and exactly the same version as that on mr-razors site. It was from 1940 according to him.
