Can You Recommend a Slant For Me?

I have loved shaving with my Gillette SS Red Tip, but I'm thinking about trying out a slant razor. Every other razor I have enjoyed has been a vintage Gillette. Did Gillette ever make a slant, or am I limited to Merkur? I much prefer my Red Tip to my Merkur HD. In spite of not loving my HD, I'm willing to give Merkur another try if that is my only slant option. Any specific recommendations?

I was in the same "dilemma" as you.

My collection is vintage Gillette British TTO.

I ended up with one of Chessman's Merkur Vintage Slants..........

Shaves beautifully, is vintage...just not a Gillette TTO. :001_smile

But in this case because of the "uniqueness" of the slant I made an exception.

Aside from some oddball slants, Merkur is it. You can buy a vintage Merkur slant. Hoffritz, Pomco, and Coles are some names of vintage slants that were just rebranded Merkur slants

I had the Merkur Slant and it was great.

Merkur makes a good quality slant, and I don't feel you could go wrong by getting one. I found the slant to give a fairly good shave, but nothing to write home about. I've found that my 1904 and my HD give me a much better shave. The slant gives a different shave, but that doesn't mean a better shave. I believe you'll have to see for yourself. :001_rolle

If you search the forum hard enough, you'll find some that aren't Merkurs. I remember pics of a plastic (or bakelite?) one somewhere, and also an open comb.

I went googling for some. Didn't find any but merkurs, but I did find this very funny little article.

edit: check out post 42 of this thread. A whole lot of different slants on display there.

I wonder if some of those razors in post 42 are Frankenrazors. At least two look like they have Gillette handles (I see a ball end tech handle and a 40's Super Speed handle, if I'm not mistaken).

Thanks for the links.

I think I'll try to get my hands on the world's most PIF'd slant to give it a 21 day trial run. Thank you for all your replies.
