What's new

Can anyone help me date this vintage Aqua Velva Musk I bought today?

I purchased these 4 bottles of NOS Aqua Velva Musk at a barber supply store today and I was wondering if anybody could let me know approximately when it dates from? On the box it says it is made by Beecham Products.

I haven't used it yet but just taking a whiff from the open bottle it's definitely muskier. I think I actually like the new stuff better but I'll have to wait and see how it reacts with my body chemistry before I make a final decision. Either way I feel the glass bottles themselves are worth the $3.00 each that I paid.

Great deal, I'd guess 70s as the era.
The glass bottles are also my preference but the actual old formula in them often fades out or changes not so great, some exceptions depending on the way it was stored. I generally buy the new stuff and pour into old glass bottles if the formula is beyond 20 years, depending on the condition.

I typed "vintage Aqua Velva" in eBay and while I didn't found (again) that exact bottle, I found one from AV Ice Blue that is very simmilar and says it is from the year 1983
I know it does not help that much but at least you know you have an aftershave that is between 30-40 years old :)

There was another thread on B&B that talks about the set which contains the same bottle. Here is the link http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/307336-Vintage-Aqua-Velva-gift-set

The link says it's from 1971 and references a Rite-Aid ad dated Dec-71 as a point of reference. Here is a copy of the ad:

I think this settles down the topic hehe :D

Actually, no, it doesn't.

Obviously, the pictured set was sold. But so were sets with the Redwood and Surf scents. In fact, the other thread referenced here includes the Surf scent, so you know there was at least one set that differed from the set pictured in this thread. In fact, we can't be sure that the newspaper ad here is advertising the set picture above it.

None of which is meant to criticize the cool photo and ad posted by m139! Thanks for that.

Actually, I do agree that the pic I posted in not conclusive. After looking at it, I noticed the bottle has a different label than the one the OP posted. So, we're back to square one!!

Anyway, m139, would you be willing to sell me that set for, say, $2? That would be a bit more than the cost of a new one. I'd be willing to pay in 1971 coins.:wink2:

While shopping with the family today, I found a full 5 ounce glass bottle of Beecham Products Aqua Velva Ice Blue for $5. My first vintage Aqua Velva find!
