I happened upon a line of men's products that I'm not familiar with today. I was in a large department store in Tokyo and I saw a selection of aftershaves and colognes marked as "Burley by Dial." There were two different aftershaves (Burley and lime), a cologne, an aftershave balm, and a hair tonic. The scent is very familiar--something like a subdued Old Spice leather with a hint of bergamot. The bottles had a sort of vintage Aqua Velva look. The advertising display also showed a partial image of a man adjusting his tie--you could see wide lapels, a thick knot and siderburns on the lower part of the face (all that was visible) which added to the old look of the product. I wonder if this is the Japanese revival of some venerable fragrance? I generally keep my eyes out for something like this and I've never seen it before. Basenotes has an entry for "Burley by Armour Dial" that lists the basic notes and gives a date of 1967, but that's all. Anybody know anything about this?
