Bought some (two bottles, buy one get one free, Walgreens) Brut After Shave yesterday while out and about...never tried it before this
Little back ground story. Last year I was in a dollar store, saw a bottle of Brut Cologne but it was a knock off...only a few dollars so I thought why not? I had read on one of the forums here that Brut was the original cheapie mass marketed fougere here in the good ol' USA. Granted, fougeres for men have been around a long time...English Fern (Pens) comes to mind, & that said, I asked Santa for English Fern for X-Mass, along with other juice...we'll see if I've been good=
Anyways, before that bottle of knock off Brut, I'd never tried it before, and when posting about this purchase, someone from the list told me to buy the real deal, that it was better
We had company last summer and I ended up PIFing the bottle of knock off Brut to one of our overnight guests, along with some other wet shaving swag, so I was out of this frag and earlier this year I picked up a bottle of Brut EdC in our grocery store...the one in the plastic bottle. I gotta say, if you are in the market for this, buy the knock off if you want to save some jack, I couldn't tell the difference between the two, and IIRC, the knock I tired was made somewhere in the south east (USA)
Later from the same grocery store, I picked up a bottle of the Brut Splash-On, I'm guessing is a watered down version of the EdC. Smells very similar, just a little bit lighter, so after these two I've been wanting to try Brut's A/S, but my grocer doesn't carry it. I thought Walgreen might, after trying CVS pharmacy sometime ago and anyways, I hit pay dirt, and they were offering buy one get one. 5 ounces, about $7.49 after tax
So I shaved some hours ago and tried thuis new to me A/S, and I need to mention...the label on the bottle says they've added menthol. What?...so much for this being true to the fougere genre, in strict terms, that is, predominantly coumarin, oakmoss, lavender. Guess what?, the menthol addition was not off putting at all, in fact I quite enjoyed it. Mind you, this is not what I'd call a high quality A/S (after reading the ingredient list) but an after shave it is and if I want to stick with the Brut theme after using it next time, I can follow with their Splash-On or the EdC. Worth mentioning...there is not a lot of alcohol in this A/S, so if you buy this and had a rough shave, you wont get bitten splashing it on
In closing, this is something I can see using once in awhile...another bottle in my rotation just to change things up. I wont grab for it after a mistakenly brutal shave...I have better after shaves to soothe irritated skin
Best,
Jake
