What's new

Brush started shedding too much!

So a while back I purchased one of those $40 badger Parker brushes. It was great for 2-3 weeks and only shed maybe 2-3 hairs per shave. Today I lathered up and got maybe 9-12 of them. I've been drying out the brush after every use and hanging it upside down. I'm really not sure why it's shedding so much now...

Any tips on how I can save it from getting much worse?

That's not good. Describe how you use the brush. Warm water? Hot water? Do hairs look like they're breaking or coming loose?

i'm guessing a shedder will always be a shedder. after the initial few hairs lost on the first couple shaves, it should not shed at all.

the odd time, my brushes will loose 1 hair, but those are few and far between and never an issue with me.

luckily I only had 1 shedder and it was sent back to the seller and Paypal covered me for the purchase, as it was thru the BST and within the allotted time for a claim.

if i were you, i'd contact the vendor or wherever you bought the brush and advise them.

I use it 4-5 days a week. Fill up bowl with warm water and let it soap for 5 minutes.

After shaving I give it a good wash and try to drain out water with my thumb and index finger gently. Shake it a few times then let it sit upside down for a few mins.

Sent them a message. Hopefully they were an AD so I can contact Parker if the vendor can't help.

I had a cheapo VDH brush that shed horribly from day one, and by a month later was a doughnut.... I guess sometimes a bad one slips through. Obviously I hope you get a replacement.. That cheapo one I just tossed. If you can't get it replaced, you should see about re knotting it.

I had 2 from WCS...returned them both.

I have a beautiful WCS badger brush that started to shed after three months. It's the only brush I have ever owned that has disapointed.
I wouldn't care so much, but the brush is truly beautiful.

I have ordered a TGN knot to place into the handle, but it pains me(a little) to destroy such beautiful eye candy in the name of function.

Two members have referred to a WCS Brush. I assume that WCS stands for West Coast Shaving, but I was not aware that they sell any brushes under their own label. What brand brush had the problems?

I didn't understand those posts either...you can't blame a vendor for a shedding brush :001_huh:
