brush sheds one or two hairs each shave?

Got an omega 11047 shave brush on june 8 and it sheds a hair almost each shave. its been almost a month, is this normal?

Meh, I wouldn't say that its normal, but its also not abnormal. How many shaves has it been through? That is a better estimate than how long you have had it.

Get some regular shampoo and give the brush a very good scrub. Shake out the exccess water and then use a regular comb to go through it thoroughly. This should solve the problem....if not then you may have a bigger problem

Don't know what your method of lathering is but it helps upon initial use IME regardless of brush to grasp the neck of knot while working up lather. I do so briskly with little to no pressure-sometimes with depending on grade of bristles.

I've 4 21047's the first one shed handful because it was my first Boar. After some experience applied the aforementioned method and minimised the shedding.

Congrats on the purchase btw!

Shedding is such a random thing, and some shedding should be expected. If you feel that your brush seems to be doing it excessively I'd contact the vendor where you purchased it from and let them advise you. If there is a problem most vendors will take care of it. If you don't get satisfaction with your vendor, which should be unlikely, contact the manufacturer.

havne't tried the shampoo thing, but i shave every other day. any old shampoo will do? i don't know if its a problem or not i was just curious. this is my first real brush

I don't have that problem with my $2.45 Turk #6 brush that I've been using daily for over a year now. No bristle/hair loss at all, unless they sneak out while I'm not looking.

I have a couple Omega boars and they both did the same thing during break in. Eventually they stopped and turned out to be wonderful brushes.

Question: Are they full length hairs coming out of the brush or are you breaking hairs off? Just curious because if full length hairs are coming out then the brush is shedding. If you're got shorter hairs coming out then you're breaking the hairs off which could mean that you aren't soaking your brush well enough to saturate the hair, or perhaps your mashing the brush down during loading or lathering.

Exactly my thought. Soak the brush. Boar brushes are not like badgers where you can run them under the sink and give it a go. You have to have to have to soak it.

Either the brush will cease dropping a couple of hairs per shave or it will start really shedding. I've had brushes that have gone each way. Just keep using it. It might take a few months, but eventually it will sort itself out.

+1

yes, shedding is pretty normal. look through shaving 101's site about cleaning a brush and brush shedding. has good tips on there.

thanks for the responses. most of the time its one full one so i will just wait and see if it stops. i did notice that when i shave in the morning i need to let it soak longer because thats when i notice a tip or two breaks off. usually i soak it before i shower which would soak for 5 minutes or more and i don't notice the broken tips.

I recently purchased a 3824 Saville Row, the brush looks like it hasnt been used much but it sheds at least two full hairs with each shave. I am fairly green to using brushes while wetshaving so naturally it concerns me a little. I have other brushes that ive never seen shed a hair. This one is consistent though. Ive given it a good cleaning and scrubbuing but it never fails to shed two hairs...eventually i guess i will run out. I did buy it used on a forum so its my problem now. Would be great if i could stop the shedding. Would love to keep using that brush one of my favorites. Wish there was something i could do. Thanks, Marc
