Breaking in a brush

Di I need to let a brush dry overnight before using it again ?

I am in the process of breaking in my SOC, and I was wondering if I could whip up some lather 5 or 6 times a day in order to hurry up the breaking in process.

Or will need to let him dry completely before reusing ?

Sadly, I only have 2 brushes at this point in my career(addiction).
But that is soon to be improved.

Whipping up lather 5 or 6 times a day will break in your brush faster than once a day. That being said, the ends split faster if the bristles are allowed to dry in between uses.

Not allowing your brush to dry completely can also encourage the growth of mould in the core of the bristles so I wouldn't make a habit of it.

As to only having 2 brushes, you've gotta start somewhere.:tongue_sm

Best to let it dry completely, as far as I know.

You could speed the process up with a blowdyer set to cool or warm. Just not too hot or you could burn the hair.

As far as I'm aware, lathering multiple times a day doesn't help break in a boar. In conditioning the bristle, we're looking for two things: 1) Help water absorption, and 2) Softening the tips. IMO, only the drying cycle, along with a bit of time, really affects these two properties.

+1 Let it dry every day. You're really only looking at a couple of weeks of break-in time anyway, and my Semogue was pretty soft from the get-go, so breaking it in wasn't a particularly trying time.

Enjoy the ride. Just use it in your rotation and forget about it and sooner then you realize, it will be broken in. There is no harm in using a brush again before its completely dry (Morning and evening shave etc.) but I wouldn't keep it continally damp or wet either. It's got to dry as part of the break in process too so its best to use it and let it dry for a day before using again.

What Ken said.

Just use it normally, it will break in naturally over the course of a few weeks.
This is something that you will hopfully own and use for decades - have a little patience!

I have 6 brushes in my rotation so I never use the same one 2 times in a row. After I'm done with one I rinse it really good and shake it really hard to get any water out of it. Then I wipe it a few times on a towel and hang it in its own holder. Its dry by the next morning, but I probably won't use it again for a few days to a week. :w00t:

I have four brushes which I use from two to four days in a row. My routine is quite simple. I clean the brush of any lather, dip it in water, squeeze it dry, give two shakes, puff up on a towel to make sure it is as dry as possible, an then place in a holder handle side up to dry over night. This seems to work fine as three of my brushes are more than a few years old.
