Boycott E-Bay For 90 Days?

You know the prices on E-Bay for razors seem to just be off the chart. I was thinking today that we here at B&B could be the largest block of bidders on the site. If we all backed off from e-bay for 90 days we could well influence the pricing on the bay by no bidding on some of these overpriced razors. Just my $.02 but what do you think?

You just want the rest of us to back off so that you have 90 days to stockpile. You know that after that those who haven't kicked the AD's will go crazy and bid the prices up to obscene amounts. Very clever.

I'm not paranoid. I know everyone's out to get me.

I don't see the point in this measure. Decide what a given item is worth to you, and don't exceed your maximum. Most of the items that show up on E-Bay are not so rare that others won't come up for sale in a week or two.

its an interesting concept ... but do you think 90 days will be enough? I think a longer freeze like 6 months or a year would have more of an impact.

If flea markets and antique fairs can be used as an example, I think a lot of the buying and selling and trading goes on between dealers, more so than to end-users and collectors. That would certainly not stop even if all B&B members take part in the boycott.

I don't think it will do any good.
Every day we see more people jumping on our bandwagon,
and they have to get their vintage razors somewhere. The bay and our own BST
are easiest.

yeah, this is a tough one. I can see both sides, but the fact remains that the people who are driving up the cost on ebay are usually not members from here, so for us here at B&B we risk a "lose/lose" situation

I have to boycott it... I cannot store all the razors that I own at the moment...

I am self imposed boycotting e-bay. I am a shaver not a collector and the amount of gear I have has become alarming. In every other aspect of my life I am frugal, well planned and conservative in the spending department.

I have often wondered what affect a 6 month complete B&B members e-bay ban would do to the market? Surely the 26,000 or so of us on here are a drop in the bucket to the total wet shaving, razor collecting population?

Who knows...but I am stopping (I think!)

For people who collect, isn't it good to have a thriving market on e-bay, along with having robust prices for collectible razors?

I was thinking of something like this myself. I would be up for it. The prices seem to be getting higher by the day. A boycott couldn`t possibly make it any worse.

You want us to boycott ebay because of supply and demand?

Yeah, this is a good sign! Our little niche hobby is growing.

As far as the big ticket auction items go, I believe it's probably B&Bers battling it out anyways.

I do lament the fact that it seems harder and harder to find a good deal on the bay.

This is an excellent idea. We could also all stop eating for the same 90 days. Think of all the weight we would lose!

Good luck! There are tons of guys out there with ADs and many of them aren't on this site at all. Unless you can get a world wide boycott I am afraid you are not going to be effective in this movement. It is a novel idea. Welcome to the world of collectors. I stopped by an antique store today on the far north side of Chicago to see if they had razors or hones and the woman running the place said they sell quicker than anything else they have. Them's the breaks! One thing you can do is not mention item on auctions and just keep it cool so bidding wars don't break out. In fact, I know a lot of gents on this site would prefer if Ebay didn't come up at all.

Hey, I got a better idea!

Let's flood the market with cheap razors!

We'll take our collections and post 'em with BIN prices of five bucks or less with free shipping...it'll keep prices low!

OK, shavers, who's with me?

Hey, were did those crickets come from?

Well i for one will be, it's starting to get a bit silly here and i have to take a step back just one more razor and im done for a while.

I have noticed a swing downwards in terms of prices so perhaps a lot of folk have what they want and are happy.

The only razors that seem to command high prices now are the mint condition choppers, full hollows seem to be dropping by a fair margin so it's probably newbies bumping prices higher.
