Boy That Slant Shaves close

I recieved a Merkur 37c slant from a fellow B&B member the other day
Man this razor shaves close It needs no pressure even close than my well stroped Valet
In my stable I have valet,open combs,adjustables and normal DE razors
Im very impressed but it has left me think do all slants shave like this and what DE or SE can shave closer?

Before the R41 made its debut the Slant was considered to be the most "aggressive" razor. I'd say it's "effective" if porperly wielded, like you did, provides a very close and comfortable shave. The Muhle R41 is considered one of the most aggressive DE's and the for SE's, the GEM Micromatic has some bite.

The 37C/39C slants to me are a nice 'hybrid' with the efficiency of the OC razors and the user-friendliness so-to-speak of the CC razors in terms of 'ease of use'. They are not nearly as 'aggressive' as advertised.
For me, the OCs such as R41 and Fatip are more 'efficient' but require a little more vigilance.

+1 You could also try shimming your DEs with as many shims as you want to get a close shave. i would not use more than two, but YMMV.

Yes, many good comments here on the slant. My daily razor is a Hoffritz slant and I'd agree that it is very efficient whether the task at hand be one days growth or three days growth. I'd also agree that it isn't nearly as "aggressive" as some would say. Slants are actually good candidates for shavers who are battling irritation and need a tool to help them win the fight.

The handles. The 37C uses the HD handle, and the 39C has the longer, heavier barberpole handle.

I personally would have rather had the 37 (shorter) than the 39 (long barber pole).

And just for an opposite view: I personally would rather have the 39c (which I do).

I think slants are as good as it gets. A wonderfully "nonaggressive" aggressive razor.

Interesting thread gentlemen. I have a Muhle R101,2011 (same head as R41) and I have been using it for a month now. I received it with only a month of DE shaving experience and only two weeks of open comb use and I'll admit there was a bit of a learning curve. She bites if you don't pay attention. I guess I must be a little sadistic because I absolutely love her now. Since i started researching DE shaving I have been intrigued by the slants. My question is for those who have used both the R41 and Slants; If you could only have one or the other, which would you choose and why?

I've been looking for a good used 39c. If you do decide to sell it, you should have no trouble finding a buyer.
