I have recently started wearing bow ties. It is an easy way to dress up my standard khaki pants/blue sport shirt work combo without looking like I am trying too hard by wearing a neck tie. I am just wondering how many of you all wear bow ties and how many tie their own instead of getting the pre-tied variety. By the way, I tie my own.

I wear them! Not ALL of the time (especially right now, the summer is dreadful for ties it seems) as I prefer regular neckties, but I do wear them. I can tie them myself and would never use a clip-on.
I have gone almost exclusively to bow ties for court. As for the style, pretied is a nonstarter!
NEVER a clip on bow tie... A man should know some basics! A clip on bow tie is every bit as lame as a clip-on four-in-hand (regular long) tie.
I own 15 or 20 bows. Wore them daily for about a year, then read 85 ways to tie a tie http://www.tcm.phy.cam.ac.uk/~tmf20/tieknots.shtml which got me back to four in hands about 80% of the time, and bows the rest.

I avg. about twice a week with the bow, and ALWAYS tied by hand.
Been wearing them for 50 years. My grandfather taught me how to tie them when I was 10 (until college I was in schools that required a tie). Carrot & Gibbs is my go to source. You can see one of their ties in my avatar.
Happy convert to bow-ties 3 months ago. It's easier to sport non-conventional colors/patterns compared to what I would normally do on a neck tie. Own about 20 so far - all freestyle self-tie. Clip-on ties are lame indeed - akin to shaving with goop from a can and a disposable plastic razor!
I started wearing them about a year ago. I have three of them, self-tie - wearing a pre-tie just seems like a bad idea. I actually started wearing them because of a kilt; I regular tie just doesn't work with them in my opinion (though I have seen a few guys pull it off quite nicely).
