Hi,

I got that razor off ebay. I think it's almost worthless even post-cleaning. As I am unable to take care of some stains. It has a Pat. number on the barrel: 133963-1917.

I would guess it's a 1917 Bostonian. Made in England. While cleaning it, 3 out of 4 teeth weren't straight. I was able to bring 2 of them back. The last one broke:quickdraw

The box is used and a lot of plating is gone. The mechanism is loose on the right side so it doesn't come up properly every time. The inside is falling appart also.

The razor is missing a tooth, black under the head. Has some plating loss and 2 cracks on the barrel (I took a picture of one of them, the other crack is about the same on the other side).

I was wondering if it worth something or not?

I didn't think it would worth that much considering the condition... It's also interesting that it could be 21-28...

You need to heat the teeth with a torch and bend them while they're red hot, otherwise as you've seen they will break no matter how careful you are.

I paid way too much... Bidding on ebay can be an addiction and a gamble... I usually bid a maximum that I never go over. I went over twice for that one (my first max was $15). And no, the seller didn't put enough details where I should've asked questions! Bah, that's all right, I can either recycle it or do another PIF with it...

I know what you mean about having discipline on da Bay. I have had the experience where I narrowly miss out on something I really wanted so then I impulsively over bid and win on something that was more marginal. I have to learn to be more rational, disciplined, and patient. If you do that and with a bit of luck you can do well on eBay.

I feel your pain on the Bostonian!

Luc, its my favorite razor and I will take it off your hands. But you're all the way on the other side of the world. I will lovingly bring it back to health and use it during my travels. Who can say they're travel razor is a Bostonian?

If you did some re-work on the razor- fix it so it is not broken any more and have it replated- you could put it back in that case and sell it (to someone who knows it was repaired of course) for $50 or so.

I think $5 or less is kinda low- it does have potential, just not like your typical razor. MAAS and scrubbing bubbles won't help here- you'll need to get creative.

Yes, I saw, PM answered

If I would have the tools or connections around here I would give it a go but since I have neither, I will have to do something else with it.

Luc don't feel bad. When I started my search for vintage Gillettes on Ebay, they saw me coming a mile away on a red tip...Now I think, they have retired:lol:

Nah, I think it became a matter of who had the fastest internet connection at the end and I forgot the rest... It's all right, I should stick to what I got at the moment and stop buying razors but it's so difficult... I will stay around BST has it's always the best value/price/quality.

Nice to see the Bostonian Luc. Good luck with whatever you decide. Five bucks or less...come on Scotty, that's a bit low surely. Whoever gets it will have FUN restoring it or individualising it. I would like to know someone was going to do that if it were my set.

How much would you pay for it? It has a ton of plate loss, a missing tooth, a crack with a chip in the barrel, it is in like 6 pieces. You can't price it based on the state it could possibly be in after it is "restored, but the state is in now. I have a piece of carbon steel that you could make into a custom straight. $500 please...
