Boreal 979 Banded Boar - Super Stiff

R

rodeo

Anyone ever try one of these? Super Stiff sounds quite appealing.

For $3.59, I ordered one to try along with an Omega 40033 super chubby.
Heck, for $27 I got two new brushes and a new soap, shipped!

Product Description
Super stiff banded boar. Great Exfoliator. This one will take awhile to break-in, LOL, if it will ever break in. Personally this brush is way too dense for me. The loft hardly bends at all, but it does whip up a good lather. Just be advised to calibrate your expectations of this brush to the $3.59 blow-out price.

Ht: 122 mm Loft: 59 mm Base: 63 mm Knot: 26 mm

I had a Boreal 976. I loved it. It was very stiff and had a beautiful wooden handle.

The handle's finish quickly began to chip. After using the brush for under a year, a HUGE wad of hair came out one morning. :thumbdown

Good thing this one is under $5. Enjoy it while you can!

I bought one of those to try as an add-on to an order. Heck, for $3.59...

Stiff is an understatement. It can double as a clothes brush. It makes the 976 that Spivey mentioned seem floppy. Too much for my skin (even though it's old and leathery).

You will definitely enjoy the Omega though. Good little brush.

I may well enjoy them both! I haven't found a brush yet that is really stiff enough for my taste so I am really looking forward to trying this Boreal. Funny, because thats how I always described my "wants" in a brush, like a "scrub brush." For the price, I'll give it a go..

I've never tried this brush, but I do have some reservations about the Boreal brand. I'm giving Boreal one last chance, but if this one turns out bad, it'll be the first brand I will not recommend. I've had a Boreal 976, a 977, and just got a Boreal 322 along with a reorder for an Omega Pro 48.

I didn't like the 976 personally, and so I sold it, and the brush ended up falling apart on the member who bought it. It was doing fine before I sold it but it just went downhill afterward for some reason. Quite a dense knot for those that like dense, scritchy boar brushes.

I kept the 977 and it was the exact opposite of scritchy from the 976. It had a good density, and more of a fannish shape to the knot than an Omega Pro 48, and maybe a touch bigger. Bar none the finest hair that I'd ever used for a boar. But the thing just kept shedding a few hairs here and there but not bad, but then I felt the knot sort of slightly rotating as I used it more, and the hair loss just got worse from there. Eventually it came out from the handle completely so another one down. I did like the hair so I thought I'd give them one last try, but if this is problematic I'm writing off the brand period.

For the $3.59 I paid for it, I could simply throw it away if I don't like it or if it quickly falls apart too. No harm, no foul. I've thrown away $5 on less things..

I can't wait to try my first Omega though. That one I ordered should be good and firm too. I can't keep putting all my brush money into Semogues.

Yeah no problem at that price. Even the same with a bit more expensive, but just a thing with Boreal. Possibly some quality concerns there is all. If it works for you and you're happy that is all that matters. :thumbup1:

Because variey is the spice of life, brother!

I think Koh-I-Noor has a fantastic bristle, but they are on the expensive side, all things considered. Despite being pretty thick bristle (SC68), it broke in very quickly and feels really soft on the face. I know that's not really Ken's style, though.

Never tried them, but I heard Boreals are supposed to be really stiff. May or not may be your thing, but hey for $3.59, you can't really lose.

I can't keep putting all my brush money into Semogues.

I've heard that one before and the answer is inevitably yes, yes you can keep putting all your brush money into Semogues.

You may have found brush nirvana.

The 976 is legendary. Possibly the densest boar brush ever. Simply unique. Until.... it starts to shred like a pc eating worm multiplying screens to infinity. I still have mine, though hobbled, still ticking!!

Just picked up a 978 and find the hair on this brush to be very nice. Tons of hair in the knot. Already making tons of lather. Appears to be a great brush for a value price of less than $10. It does state on the shipping box do not soak in water. (Assuming they are referring to handle and brush). It dries out really quickly and ready for duty again.
