I bought this soap on Friday in the Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia. My initial thoughts are here and I'll put up a review after further use.
This is an all-natural hand-crafted soap. The ingredient list reads as follows:
saponified oils of olive, coconut, palm & shea butter, (w/retained glycerin), water, essential oils, French green clay, sea salt, vitamin E
The price was $3.75 for a 3.75 oz bar.
It has a pleasant, mild, masculine scent, with notes of rosemary and lemon verbena.
I had no trouble lathering it with my Body Shop synthetic brush or my Marvy boar brush. While I usually prefer the body shop brush for VdH and creams, the boar brush outperformed it on this soap.
I shaved in the shower with a '53 SS and a fresh Feather blade.
I made two passes (WTG and XTG) using lather made with the synthetic brush. The lather had somewhat large bubbles and was a little thin. The lather didn't seem to have a lot of staying power, but was still slick and protecting. For my third (ATG) pass, I loaded the boar brush and added it to the existing lather.
It was here where the soap really started to shine. I got a dense, thick lather that let me get BBS with no irritation. If I can do that with this soap with a $4 Marvy brush, I'll have to see what it can do with a better boar or badger brush.
This is a recommended buy for anyone who has a chance to visit the Reading Terminal Market in Philly.
