The race between Semogue and Omega as the preferred manufacturer was just too close to call. So, we're giving it one more go.

The current "solid" specs for the brush are:
- A 24mm knot
- Cream bristles
- Premium hair grade if Semogue manufacturers it. Omega only offers one grade of Hog hair.
- An acrylic handle with a dark blue body and a clear or pearl bottom (depending on manufacturer capability/willingness)
- Priced at $50 or less

Tossed my vote in for Semogue. They've already shown a willingness to specially cater to the (not so small) online crowd, evidenced by the 09 LE, SOC, 830 and 620 brushes.

AND Semogue offers different grades of Boar to include Premium knots, which is something Omega doesn't offer it would seem. Omega just basically calls their's Hog Bristle, period.

Yep. This also helps to further control the feel of the brush on the face, without being solely dependent on size and loft.

I just like 'em better. They seem more "premium" as a range, and Leon is a regular contributor to discussions here. Dealing with Semogue would just give me the warm-fuzzies.

O-meg-a! O-meg-a! O-meg-a!

I'm just curious why you guys who want the Omega, WANT the Omega?
What's your reasoning behind that particular choice. I'm sure you have a valid reason for wanting that brand, so why not share it with the rest of us too. As you can see, many have voiced their opinions of why they want Semogue, so let's here from the other camp too. I'm not questioning your choice mind you, just wondering what led you to that decision?

+1

I've never used an Omega, so this input would be really good. :thumbup1:

It would also be awesome if people who have used both brands would relate their experience and how they felt their brushes differed from each other.

I've owned a number of Omega brushes and never been dissatisfied with the quality of the brush, especially given the price point. I also find they break-in nicely. Omega has been making brushes for over 60 years and if they're good enough for Italian barbers, they're good enough for me. In addition, when you are satisfied with a brand, there is less incentive to experiment with other manufacturers.

Those are good points. But have you ever owned and tried the Omega Hog brushes? Or are all your Omegas Badgers?

All of my Omega's are boar bristle. I'm not as impressed with their badger brushes so I no longer have any as they have been supplanted by other brushes. It's not that they're bad but I felt other badger brush brands were better. However, regarding Omega boar brushes, I've feel you get a lot of brush for the money.

I would've voted semogue down if the handle were wooden, but their acrylic handles are probably not as bad, and I think semogue is going to offer a much better (ie softer) knot.
