Blasberg meat cleaver

Ok, saw this on a second hand site last week with 3 other blades. Curiosity made me but it - the fella said it measured 28mm and he wasn't wrong it's a full 9/8 and NOS or very little used. Honed it and I'm now off to get shaved.... Oh and it cost me a whopping 13.50 euros including postage.
Anyone know anything about Blasberg?

Never heard of them, but that is a massive score Paul! Congratulations! If it shaves well, who cares about the name. I bet Graybeard might know something about it. His knowledge reference is massive.

Just back from shave no.1 with this razor. It's a keeper!!! Great shave, great edge. Love the weight behind it an it actually sang when stropping.... I'm certainly having a lot of luck this week!

Again, I haven't even tried my straights yet but you've made me desire a large bladed razor.

Nice score. I'll have to keep an eye out for a cheap one to fix up out there.

I bet Graybeard might know something about it. His knowledge reference is massive.

The impression I always have is that he does not need to look anything up, he just knows it. So I visualize him kicking off his boots and swinging his feet up onto a footstool. Then he reaches for a pipe and his tobacco of choice for the evening. With scotch in hand he clears his throat, licks his lips and then enlightens the rest of us. I don't know how he does it.

That's a beauty of a razor.
Believe it or not, there were several different razor suppliers with the name of Blasberg.
Blasberg Barber Supply from Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Gebruder Blasberg, Solingen.
F. Blasberg (Friedr. Blasberg), Solingen.
Blasberg GMBH, Solingen

I don't think your razor is from Gebruder Blasberg since their razors were marked "Gebr Blasberg" or with a stag.
It wouldn't be from Blasberg Barber Supply since it's not marked as such.

Of the remaining two companies, it's more likely to be from F. Blasberg just because they distributed a lot more cutlery, knives and razors than Blasberg GMBH.
F. Blasberg was in business from the late 1930s to 1983 when they went bankrupt. They continued in business afterwards, but were no longer in the knife and cutlery business.
F. Blasberg bought their razors from different suppliers, so it's difficult to tell for sure who made the razor. I think you can be fairly safe in assuming that it's German made.
Blasberg's main supplier of razors and knives was Solingen manufacturer Hugo Hoppe who were in business from 1920 - 1970. it certainly looks like it could be a Hoppe razor, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks for the kind comments and especially to Greybeard for the info on the maker. I have really taken to this razor and it's now in my special storage place where only the best razors get to go!!!

I may be wrong bit I don't think it's German. There's written "Garanti" on the tang. The correct spelling in German would be "Garantie". Garanti could be Turkish. Perhaps it's a German razor produced for the Turkish market?

Thomas, garanti is also the spelling in French and I got this here in Belgium so I'm guessing it was for the French market. I have seen quite a few French blades with garanti on them so that's the story I'm sticking to! ;)

Garanti? It's a fake one ;-) I looked at that ad I believe but since I sold all of my straights in the last months I had no interest. Hope you have many great shaves from that big boy!
