Blades in the mail

Hey everyone,I need some feedback on this one. A new friend of mine on here sent me some blades in the mail to sample. Upon delivery It looked as if the corner of the envelope had been peeled back and then resealed. When I opened it, it was empty. I wonder if the post office did this? What I want to know is, has this ever happened to anyone else on here? Is it okay to send blades through the post office in a regular envelope?

Sending blades through the mail is something that is done here daily. As long as you package them safely, there should be no issues. Usually wrap them in paper or a plastic bag.

I wouldn't send blades in a regular envelope, that's just asking for damage. A padded envelope costs like $0.89 well worth it IMO.

I was recently sent 9 blades in the mail inside a regular envelope with a regular postage stamp. But they were wrapped in between two sheets of paper, not just lose in there. I got them safe and sound.

I use thin cardboard like that used for cases of soda to mail blades in an envelope. I fold a piece of the thin cardboard in half and then cut it to the size of the envelope. I seal 3 sides with tape, put the blades in and then seal the 4th edge with tape, put it in the envelope, seal it and send it.

Well i would assume someone did it, especially if it was resealed. Why?...who knows.

I received an envelope once that got mangled by the sorting machine, some blades were missing, some were not.

coming from someone who's sent/received hundreds (gotta be by now) of envelopes with blades... that one instant mentioned above was the only damage i've ever encountered.

An envelope is sufficient for sending blades but I would not recommend sending them loosey goosey in the envelope, although I will say this is how I receive most of the blades and they have made it safely.

tape them to a sheet of paper or index card. you can even fold a sheet of paper around them or put them inside a coin envelope.

This is what I use to send blades.... a flat coin wrapper, I put about 4-8 in each one evenly spaced and tape the ends shut. I got 1,000 of them off amazon for roughly $6.00 shipped.

Also keep in mind envelopes move though a sorting machine at high speed, if the envelope is bulky it is more likely to get snagged. This is where tapping the blades to a sheet of paper comes in handy, you can place them in such a way that it keeps the envelope flat. If packaged correctly you've got nothing to worry about.

You'd be surprised at how many blades a single stamp will carry, I believe the most i've received was 22 with a single stamp.

Thanks for the info guys. It was disappointing finding an empty envelope but I feel even worse for my friend who sent them.

Noone mentioned this so I will...

It is OK to send blades in an envelope but make sure you request that the mail be sent as "non-machinable". This means they won't run the envelope through the sorting machine and the blades will arrive just fine. It will cost a few cents more but it's the only way to do it unless you want to send the things in a box, which I don't do.

Hard to say what happened there. Maybe the seal came loose in a sorting machine, the blades come spilling out and the postal worker present is a huge fan of Astra. I think the majority of postal workers are honest, hardworking people, but in an organization that big there are bound to be bad apples. I am sure stuff gets opened without cause, stuff stolen, packages mysteriously lost, birthday cards with cash mysteriously vanish.....it probably happens more than we know. I feel bad for you and your friend as well. It was a nice gesture and a shame it turned out that way.

I also have plenty of Astra's and other blades I'd be happy to send you. PM me your address as well and I will get some out in the mail to you as well.

Wow! This has to be the nicest and most generous bunch of guys of any forum out there. I don't have any spare blades, much less Astra, to send the OP, but if I did I would, especially after seeing all of your generosity. It is kind of contagious.

I have been sending blades in the mail for years and have never had an issue. I take a business size piece of cardboard (actually one of my business cards) and tape the blades to the card. I then take another business card and tape it to the other card similar to a sandwich with the blades as the filling. I put it in a business size envelope and mail it. I have sent blades to hotels I will be staying at, to some folks on B&B, and to friends. I have never had a problem with that method.

I never knew you could request such a thing!

do you know if you can request that without going to the post office? for instance, how do they mark the envelope so they know "no machines!"?

I don't send my blades from the post office, I drop them in my mailbox on my doorstep.

I use small padded envelopes, but I usually will send a bunch of blades at once.

However, the last blade giveaway I gave away everything but my Personnas and 7 O'clock Yellow, so I'm not of much help anymore. I don't need a ton of blade choices, and honestly, I might be down to JUST Personna Lab Blue. They work, and are cheap :)
