A couple years ago, I settled onPersonna preps for merkur and was real happy. I recently got a 2011 r41 and am alternately getting awesome and brutal shaves. I'm wondering if there are blades people have had better luck with for the r41?

I like using Derby blades in mine. Astra platinum blades are also nice and smooth in it.
Voskhod has been a fairly calm citizen with the '11 R41 for me, at least compared to others. Like Mick, Astra SP has worked for me as well.
Astra SPs actually feel quite rough for me in my R41, while they're my go-to for my Merkur 34C. Personna Platinum Chrome (a.k.a. Reds) work well for me in the R41, but only for two shaves. Recently I've been shopping all kinds of blades, and a very interesting sample order from Russia arrived yesterday, with Voskhods, Ladas, Sputniks, and Rapira Platinum Lux and Swedish Supersteel. Rapira PL is loaded for tomorrow.
Update: I obviously can't conclude after a single shave, but my first impressions of the Rapira PL are very promising. A greater shave than usual this morning.

Feather. Great shave every time.
The two blades I use in my R41 are Gillette Silver Blues and Feathers. Best shaves I have ever had.
+1: Feathers work great in the 2011 R41 for pass reduction.
For myself I found that it is more important cream / soap I use and preparation,than blade! Best results are achieved with maximum sharp blades like Polsilver SI,Gillette Blue,Feather.
I am new to DE shaving and the 2011 R41 so take it for what it's worth but I am using a Astra SP and like it while I didn't like the Astra in my DE89 at all. Could be that I only go WTG and XTG with '11 R41. Go figure.
I tried them all and to my surprise Israeli Crystals were the victor.
You'll get the same variety of suggestions for the R41 as with any other razor. There is no more unanimity around the best blades for the R41 than other razors.
The 2011 R41 is the only DE razor I use. My current rotation includes GSB's, Iridium Super (NOS), Feather, & Perma-sharp Super.
If your comfortable with managing a light touch, there is probably nothing as efficient as the R41 with a Feather blade. If you're heavy handed or inattentive you'll probably draw blood. The R41 with a Feather is not a forgiving combination but I've gotten my best shaves with the combo.
