Black Tip 40's Super Speed: Aluminim vs. Steel Tip

How does one tell the difference between the aluminum handle and steel on a black-tipped 40's style Super Speed? Obviously weight would tell, but is there any visible identifier?

Try a magnet. It will stick to steel, but not aluminium.

Y'know, that little voice in my head just mocked me. He said "Duh, that would tell ya, wouldn't it?"

When I get the one I just won on the Bay, I will do that.

You'll know the difference when you see one. The aluminum seems to be a more bright metal. It doesn't get darker like the nickel handles. What I don't like about the aluminum SS is they get little black pit marks up where they connect to the blade guard. I have three and they all have the pitting to some extent.

Looking more closely at AsylumGuido's comparison picture, it appears the aluminum has a smooth length toward the top of the handle, where the standard has knurling all the way up. So I believe the one I got on Ebay is the standard.

Thanks gentlemen.

I know 3 different types of the black tip Super-Speed:

See the Super Speed link in my signature. It spells out the difference.

I have a Black Tip Aluminum handle. Its pretty bright and I didn't care for it so far. Its not aggressive enough of a razor that I want. I will try other blades in it since all I am using is the Personna's. I like the blades. Only Safety razors I like for sure is the Slim Adjustable and Red Tip. But I know why the others don't work for me as I bought them to just try them out so I can say with experience if I like them or not.

Black Tip I would use if I had a heat rash or razor burns on my neck.

Achim, I never quit marveling at your collection. One man's stash becomes the world's reference point. Just awesome.

I went for this lot for the black tip and red tip, but am glad also to have the bullet tip Micromatic and the Ever Ready. I use the ER guy as kind of the mascot for my blog, so time I had one.
