Black tie and a pocket square

Now half as wise
Just started wearing pocket squares within the last year or so. Black tie event tomorrow night. Do I go with a white silk pocket square? Yes or No? And how would you fold it?

Definitely a White Silk pocket square, with a regular square/tv fold.

Since it's formal, you wouldnt want too much attention drawn with an obscure fold, and the white silk square is classic.

Yes - white only and TV fold only. No attention is being called for to your suit breast area with black tie dress. Consider saying "hankerchief" in lieu of "pocket square."

I'm curious about this. I carry a white cotton one in my back pocket everyday. I use that if I have to blow my nose or wipe my hands and nothing else is handy. I wouldn't use a silk one for that, hence, to me at least, the distinction bewtween handkerchief and pocket square. or another way I think of it is function vs decoration.

White.

TV fold (ie, half-inch straight across visible, for those who are wondering what a tv fold is.)

Linen is the best choice. I'd take cotton as second, over silk.

And no, there's nothing wrong with having an actually useful handkerchief as your PS.
