Black Licorice!

Anybody else have this problem? I didn’t know how prominent the smell really was until last night when we had friends over. Never slow to make a comment, my buddy said, “mmm, it smells like licorice in here?”

No matter what I do or where I put the puck, the first smell that hits me when I come home is sweet black licorice! I haven’t even used the stuff yet, it's still in the original wrapping. I am already impressed:w00t:

I am assuming you are talking about Stirling Anise? Definitely a great smell especially since it is not a common one found in shaving products.

There's an anise cream out there that's excellent made by Gentlemans Refinery. It's in the same league (but also the same price) as AoS.

Stirling Anise is a wonderful scent, very strong. Mine is in the wrapper, zip lock, I have a cold and can still smell it thru all that.

Mystic Water also makes a great anise scented soap called "Green Fairy".

I've smelled that one too, it's another great Anise scent.

Like others, I don't even like black licorice, but I love the scent. :wink2:

I have mine smashed into a bowl on my bathroom counter. It smells good enough to eat. Tomorrow will be it's maiden voyage.
I cannot wait.

Mine is in the tin it came in. I don't smell it until I open the tin. Perhaps the puck you have got exta EO.

LOL When I first pulled my soaps out of the box the only thing I could smell was the anise! Every other soap in there smell like black licorice. I put my sample into a zip lock bag and after a couple of hours I was able to smell the other scents. I am currently using the Tuscany and love it. I look forward to the Anise as well!

The anise is awesome. I'm not really a fan of licorice but the scent doesn't seem to bother me at all. And the performance is out of this world.

I had a very similiar experience to Riff Raff. When I received my Stirling order of shave & bath soaps. I opened the box and was hit with some great smelling black licorice scent. I unpacked the soaps and jumped on this form. A few minutes later my bedroom smelled like black licorice. When I put them in the drawer I put the Anise in a zip lock baggie to tame the scent down some. While the drawer dosen't smell like Anise. You can still smell it without opening the baggie.

Can't wait to give it a try. But need to finish up one of the other soap/creams in my rotation first.

Good information to know. I can't stand the smell or taste of black licorice....just a personal preference. To each his own, but in this case it's good to know so I can steer away from a potential unhappy purchase.

I had my 2nd shave with Anise today.
I built my lather thick and put it on my face. Then I wet my fingertips and worked it in.
I got it a little thinner and man was it slick and cushiony.
I love it!

Same, I hate black licorice, but love Stirling soaps. I'll avoid this scent.
I emailed him couple weeks ago and Rod said he might make a citronella based shave soap. :O I hope he does since I love that scent.
