What's new

black beauty

I picked up a couple of black beauty long handle razors about month ago on eBay in mint for around 20.00 each shipped. I notice now they are going for for two or three times that much. Would this be because of Christmas or has the going rate gone up that much?

I still see some being sold on Ebay for less than $30. Hard to say why there would be a bump in interest.

There are so many variables at work in any eBay razor sale so it is hard to use eBay as a value guide or use a one-month delta as a trend indicator.

Mint Super Adjustable for $20 is a great price! I sold a shaver-grade SA a couple weeks ago for $15 . . . they just don't bring the higher prices like Slims and Fat Boys do on eBay.

Good news is, they are great razors . . . just a little under-appreciated.

The price of everything goes up and down depending on how many people are wanting what is being sold and how much they are willing to spend.

I've seen them go unsold and then sell for the price of a clean fat boy.

There are no set rule when trying to figure out prices on eBay.

They are very good razors. I used them for 40 years before shaving with anything else.

I just bought one is good shape (on ebay) for $25 shipped (auction) and a similar one was list for a "buy me now" price of $35.

I didn't see much lower than that unless is it had more cosmetic issues or was one of the years where some plastic was used. On the other hand most of the very high prices you see for them (I saw one for $120) are for collectors where things like mint, unopened or boxes with "manuals" are desirable.

For me, I was just looking for a good looking and good shaving model. I think the big advantage of the Black Beauty (other than looks) is the fact that it's under appreciated compared to the Slim and Fat Boy and yet it works more or less the same way and is at least as good looking IMO.

Just to be precise, when you say "going for", you do mean completed sales and not asking?

Still looking for a NOS or really XC P-1 and have seen the prices up around the 50-100 depending on cleanliness. Who knows how the prices rally on eBay. It DOES surprise me when some guys seem to just up the ante as soon as you bid even though there's been no activity on an auction for hours... Wierd.

That would be the "max bid' mechanism engaging wouldn't it? I'm not sure if that's what you are referring to?
