Big Fellow (?) Questions

[Darjeeling Express]

What do I have here?
a) Is it a Big Fellow?
b) Old Type or New Improved?
c) There is no serial # on the head.
d) Its got rounded/stubby securing nubs.
e) The pat. date at the base is Jan. 13, 1920

P.S. Pay no attention to the GIANT, barrel length long gash. That's just an optical illusion.

It looks like a New Improved Big Fellow from late 1927 or 1928. This was a break in the serial numbers, according to the Krumholz book.

My silver Big Fellow looks identical except for the color and it is exactly 3 3/4 inches long!

Since we seem to have hit a lull in the thread I am going to throw this out. I got one of these Saturday (Big Boy Deluxe). Freaking thing is an ounce away from being a petite but potentially quite effective hammer.

Anyway. Gonna fire it up tomorrow. What can I expect from the shave? Is it a hatchet or is it (unexpectedly) non-lethal?
