Best Mild Stainless Steel Razor

Getting some money back from Uncle Sam. Want to spend it on a mild Stainless Steel razor.
Which one should I get. The Feather, Tradere, Ikon or other.

The best bang for your buck,in my opinion, is the Weber SS razor. I have two. One with a polished head & handle . The other with the Arc finish and Arc handle.

I previously owned the Feather. A beautiful razor, but you have to find the sweet spot. They just came out with the D2 version. As far as Tradere, I previously owned a Tradere handle but never their razor. It seems a bit bulky to me. Admittedly, I have not tried Ikon, Pils, or Above the Tie's Atlas or Titan. What is interesting about Above the Tie's SS razors are you can get them in H, R, and M levels of aggressiveness. H is most aggressive. R is regular, and M is mild aggressiveness.

At the end of the day, I am extremely pleased with my Weber razors. Load it with a good, sharp blade and you will love it!

I hear the Feather is mildest of them all.

concurs with what i have read about the original D1. "can't shave the fuzz off a peach" was my favorite comment -- "requires zen like concentration" being a close second!

the new D2 supposedly shaves better/differently than the D1 and presumably is also mild but mildest might have to wait for more reviews and comparisons.

Don't overlook the German PILS 101NE stainless

Above the Tie Makes a Serious High Quality Stainless Steel, Which cant be compared to Weber that is made from cast, Which is Melted Stainelss Steel? Then put into a case. As appose to an Above the Tie which is Machined From a Solid Block Stainless Steel and formed Via High Tech Computer Program like "Auto Cad" Above the Tie Razor is in Top League of Well Made Stainless Steel Razors. Like other higher end ines, Tradere, Pils, Feather.

Weber isnt a bad option if your looking for something less Expensive, It is a good shaver. If youwant beter quality i recomend a Titan or Atlas Handle with the M-1 Head.

+1...I have the Weber polished stainless steel razor and it is my favorite. The other two I use regularly are a Muhle R89 and Above the Tie Titan M1. The Weber is just smooth and the weight of it makes shaving seem nearly effortless. The Titan is good too, a bit more aggressive than the Weber. I haven't tried a Feather though and hardly see any reason to at this point. For $70, get the Weber and don't look back, IMHO.

So just to level set here a bit, with regard to making a razor (and in fact in making most things) there is not a substantive difference between casting and machining. Both use steel that is "melted", as that is you how you make steels in the first place. The choice of how to shape the final product is really one of cost, quantities and other factors. It is in no way a statement about the quality of an item. Even extremely quality sensitive parts are built by casting today (and in fact have since the 30's), including things like turbine blades, and the like. It's a production choice that has pros and cons, and really nothing more than that.

Note, this doesn't speak at all to whether ATT or Weber are better or worse. I just wanted to speak to the metallurgical aspects :).

My vote, hands down is for the NEW Feather AS-D2. I have had the PILS, etc and although beautifully made, I have not liked any of them when it comes to how they shave, feel, etc for various reasons. The new Feather.. pure heaven.

Did you have the previous Feather version as well? If so, it would be interesting to know if the D2 is more aggressive and that it doesn't need the sweet spot angle to be effective.

Have aWeber. Just wanted a razor a little more heavy.

I have the ATT Titan H1 and R base plates. It has nice weight to it. I prefer heavier razors and this fits the bill. The M base would give you a mild shaver. The quality is top notch. I also have an Ikon standard bar which is mild in my opinion and for a price of $125 is very reasonable in my opinion.

$IMG_07711.jpgThe iKon Open Comb Deluxe is on the mild end of OC razors. In fact the SB iKon is more aggressive than the OC. I've been shaving with this one for about 3 weeks and while more aggressive than my EJ89, it's not overly aggressive by any means.

The other nice thing about ATT is they have a 30 day guarantee on their razors so if you don't like it you can return it.

I have used a Feather AS-D1 almost exclusively for the last 18 months after buying it in the summer of 2010. I am very pleased with it to say the least. I have replaced the handle with a Weber Bulldog (I was previously using vintage Gillettes). The shorter handle is just perfect for me.
With the Feather head I also use the Ikon baseplates (all of them) as the blade mellows. This makes up my Holy Grail razor. It only lacks a nice replating to even out the colors of all parts... After almost 8 years of actively looking I think I have found my razor:thumbup1:!

I started DE shaving 3 weeks ago with the Merkur 34C and so far I'm happy with it. I've learned a lot from this forum and having been bitten by the RAD bug I figured a mild razor would be more suitable for me (my beard doesn't grow enough for a daily shave). I ordered a Weber polished head last week and should be getting it any day now. I'm now wondering if I should have gotten the Feather razor instead since it seems the consensus is that it is a milder razor than the Weber.
