What's new

BBS, DFS, CCS, or SAS?

What level of shave satisfies you? What do you shoot for? Is there a limit to the level you can achieve? Does the shave have to last as certain number of hours in order to truly achieve that level?

Personally, I don't think I will ever achieve a BBS. Right now BBS is a myth to me. I'm unwilling to go for the XTG or ATG on my neck. Had some bad experiences with rough shaves in my teens and 20's. I'm new to DE and still experimenting with different blades and soaps. I get a pretty good shave with Derby and will use that as my go to blade for the moment. I used a Feather this morning and got what I consider a DFS, but it's 2PM (7 hours post shave) and if I were to go out this evening I would certainly need to shave again.

I am satisfied with CCS, but try to achieve (and usually do) a DFS. Today is my first day working through a sampler pak from WCS and I'm sure some of the blades will give me greater or lesser results. That my 2 cents.

For me it depends what I'm doing that day and what razor I'm using. With some BBS if fairly effortless, but with others I'll settle for a CCS or DFS and be perfectly alright with it. If it needs to be BBS, then I match the hardware accordingly.

It's DFS for me most days. An occasional BBS shave is possible for some special occasion, or just when the mood strikes but several days in a row of that will have my skin irritated. Like you pointed out, when you find the best blade the shave will probably go up another notch even with the same shave routine - I've definitely found that to be the case for me.

I strive for DFS and occasionally will be surprised with BBS. Some days a CCS will do especially when I've had a rough encounter with a straight.

BBS most days, however if I shoot for BBS too many days in a row my skin gets irritated. I usually can do 3 BBS in a row, followed by DFS for any remaining days that I MUST shave.

Always notice the people looking for BBS all the time are very new to this. Once you get some more experience, and don't have any expectations but an acceptable shave, maybe DFS, then BBS will just happen sometimes. The better your technique gets, the better your average shave will get. Blades and razors have some effect, but technique is a lot more important. BBS can be acheivable with almost any combination of blade and razor, but if you make that your main focus, your going to end up with more irritation and cuts than you bargained for.

BBS happens. Just don't try too hard.

THIS.

Most days when I get BBS I AM trying for it, but only by making an additional pass. I don't actually "focus" on it per se.

Usually CCS to DFS . Occasionally a BBS. Depends what kind of shave I'm having comfort wise. I find blades matter. for this.

I just enjoy the shave, I don't care for bbs, dfs and ccs feel more comfortable to me, I actually like to feel the hair slightly when I rub against the grain, I am weird like that. I don't stress about much in life, especially shaving.

A BBS is great but I'm perfectly fine with a DFS.

I am determined not to make shaving a chore again, like it was back in the goo & mach 3 days.

DFS+ is my normal as well and I'm fine with it. CCS is good too. I much prefer to have a clean, close shave that was comfortable to achieve.
