Bay Rum & Vetiver Aftershave?

My favourite "affordable" aftershave is Spice Island by Aubrey Organics.

I love the scent and its simple all natural ingredients list. The witch hazel, aloe, and glycerin also have good healing properties.

This stuff was my first exposure to bay rum, but it is definitely a hybrid compared to the more traditional Dominica, which I find rather sweet and plain for my liking.

Spice Island is a more earthy and herbal example. The company describes it as "Bay Rum - Vetiver" but there is also a healthy dose of patchouli in there as well.

Do you guys know of any other bay rums that have a prominent dose of vetiver in them, or even patchouli?

I'm willing to bet that it is a fairly unique combination. The Spice Island is pretty fleeting, however, and I was hoping that something else might have a little bit more longevity.

(I know this is in the A/S section but I'd also be eager to hear any EDC-EDT suggestions as well)

Thanks.

LOL, when I saw your thread title, my first thought was "Oh, this guy needs some Aubrey Organics Spice Island!" I know of nothing lese out there that combines BR, vetiver & patchouli--either in an aftershave or a cologne.

There's no BR in it, but you might give Musgo Real a sniff. It's a patchouli-based AS that's pretty darned amazing.

Look for it in your local health food store. I know that our local Whole Foods carries it, if there's one nearby.

Canadians can get it from well.ca - I definitely think its worth a try. Especially as far as "natural" products that only use essential oils go, its the best aftershave I have found.

Wingnut, I'm glad you like it anyway! I figured there weren't going to be too many scents like it.

Thanks for the Musgo Real recommendation. I've heard about it before but I still haven't gotten to try it yet. Maybe I can try layering it with a bay rum for an experiment; MR lasts quite a while for an aftershave, doesn't it?

I realize now that I probably like the vetiver and patchouli more than the bay rum aspect, so Musgo Real may be a good choice anyway.

Thanks! I think that is a great option...

Unfortunately, it is really expensive, but I'm going to bookmark it for now and do a little more homework on the EDT. I think the aftershave is out of my pricepoint.

Thanks for the thread. I love the smell of the Aubrey Spice Island shaving cream, so I'll definitely have to pick up the aftershave.

The Aubrey Aftershaves are all great!

I used to carry samples of the Spice Island but only sold a few (very little interest) and kept the rest of the bottle myself.

City Rythms is Bergamot, Cedar and Sandalwood and North Woods is Lavender & Pine.

Great stuff!

If anyone is interested in this aftershave I will post a link to a deal in the shopping forum right now (I am not affiliated, just passing on a deal).

To the OP - I'm a big fan of both Bay Rum and Vetiver.

You may be interested in trying the following EdT's / EdC's:

Czech & Speake Cuba, Aramis Havana, Guerlain Vetiver, Chanel Sycomore, Malizia Uomo Vetyver.

These choices don't all have vetiver and rum in them but they are all great in my book!

gaj90027,

Thanks for the recommendations.

-I've got a bottle of Aramis Havana on the way! I'm really excited to try it. I wanted a big spicy fragrance with a fair dose of tobacco.
-I'm planning a blind buy of Guerlain Vetiver in the near future. It must be a classic for a reason; I've read all the reviews...
-Chanel Sycomore is similar to Encre Noire, isn't it? (I was also going to blind buy that one, but I'm leaning towards getting a sample) I'll read up on it. Thanks.
-Never heard of the Malizia but I'm glad to be aware of it now. Wow - the price is right and I can get it in Canada. $15 is a steal; I've got to try it!
-I got a little scared of the C&S Cuba because of the supposed "fecal" top note, so I may wait until I get a small decant somewhere. Maybe it will just be dark and earthy on my skin - I don't mind a bit of funk but I don't want people to think I smell like a stable! (Some people are probably just being dramatic about it) Otherwise it sounds very promising. I love Cuban cigars and I hope this gives me a little reminder... What do you think of it?

Hello everyone! Been busy with work the last several months and have not been able to write in. It turns out that Helan's Vetiver and Rum is one of my favorites. So much so, that we are the US importer. If you really want to try some of their product, shoot me a pm and we'll see if we can arrange a B&B discount. Merz is one of our best customers and their product lines are great!
