Batter Up! - Baseball Bat Scales???

A birthday gift for a good friend's barber. My friend still goes back to Chicago to get his lovely locks trimmed up by Vinny the barber. Same barber for 30+ years. He asked me to make something special for his b-day. I thought he would get a kick of these scales. They are trimmed out the color of the Chicago CUBS. Vinny is a big fan of the cubs. I told my friend to ask Vinny to give him his first Straight Razor shave with his new B-Day gift.

The wood is my personal stock of spalted ash wood (baseball bat wood) with a CA finish. Blade is a 11/16ths GENCO Master Barber, in near mint condition.

The biggest challenge in making these scales was insuring the heel of the blade did not potrude out the bottom of the scales. Got lucky though and the blade fits with room to spare.

As a former minor-leaguer I would love to have a set of scales like that, or out of maple since I switched to that. Very cool!
