Bang for the Buck Brush

I saw an Amazon review of a Parker sillvertip brush the other day, and the reviewer wrote that its a great brush despite the modest price, that it doesn't shed and performs better than expected, as good as other more expensive brushes. His opinion is that its not that popular because it doesn't have the cache of other brands and he strongly recommended it as a great bang for the buck item.

So I put it to you, Greg, what's your Bang for the Buck Brush?

My first brush was my Parker Silvertip with black handle. I still love it today. I also enjoy my Semogue 1305 boar. Once it breaks in, it is outstanding!

What's the price range? There are a lot of great brushes out there that provide a great value...anywhere from $8-$150.

The Grosvenor. Great mixed hair brush with a little scritch and a lot of flow through. One of my two go-to face lathering brushes.

Parker silvertips are very soft, but they are of low density and backbone. If you value these at all, look else where.

As for bang for bang for the buck I like the EcoTools Bamboo kabuki brush for $8 at Wallmart or $4 shipped on Ebay. No brush at any price will beat it for efficient production of perfect lather. The dense knot of thin hair really whips up lather that is a notch above what most shave. Plus its as luxurious on the face as anything else out there. The only trouble being that it barely holds lather for 3 passes, and being a four pass guy myself, I generally have to go back to the puck and load/lather again. Even with that notable quark, and a stable of other fantastic high end brushes, this one gets a lot of use.

Many of the Semogue boars such as the 1305, 620, 830 & 1800 are all excellent brushes that can be had for $19-$25, making them a great value.

I also recently picked up a Simpsons Berkeley, which was $44 before shipping, which I feel is a great deal for a Simpsons brush that I am very happy with so far. Bought it for a face latherer, but it is also proving itself a great bowl latherer as well believe it or not!

I find myself reaching for the cheapy omega more than my semogue or my Simpson. The boar stunk so bad in the beginning too.
