bamboo - the early stages

like the way they look. i only have used bamboo for fishing poles and tomatoe plants
where did you get these pieces?

You mean the bamboo rods? I got them from a shop that sells stuff made from bamboo, including unfinished rods themselves. If you have a Chinese area near you, that's the place to look. $3 for a 6-7 foot piece.

That's actually my garage.
this isn't the same kind of bamboo growing wild in my neighbor's yard with roots that crawl thru the yard????
Interesting idea with the heat treatment. I like your Craftsman folding table. I use one in my wood shop all the time.
Yup - although there are many (probably 100's) of varieties of bamboo.

If only I had the equipment
The next experiment will probably be hand-carving (something I can do fairly well, though it will have to be a relatively soft wood). Perhaps a Jennifer Lopez body... Hmmm....

Try some olive wood. Nice and soft, though fairly oily. I made a brush of olive wood recently and it turns like butter. I would expect it would carve nicely as well. If you have a bamboo blank and a handle profile you would like for me try and turn for you, I'd be happy to do it, just for the fun of it. I could give the J Lo profile a try
