Badger equivalent of Muhle STF

Hi Guys!
I've been meaning to buy a new a badger/boar brush that is similar to the Muhle STF synth. I'd ideally like a brush with stiff backbone being the primary preference and lush tips secondary. The brush should give a good scrub to the stubble, dont mind if its too rough even.

I am no badger expert (only owned 4) but I would imagine any short-lofted, mid-range badger would fit the bill.

If in doubt, Yaqi 2 bands are cheap and decent. Never heard of anyone being disappointed with one.

The Mühle is labeled as S(ilver)T(ip)F(ibre) and I feel that my 25mm knot resembles a soft Silvertip quite well.

What you are describing though sounds like a dense 2Band or probably Manchurian so have a look what Zenith is offering in this category.

Your Muhle STF must be considerably different than mine. I would never describe it as having stiff backbone, or having any scrub.

But be that as it may, your description of a desired brush sounds a lot like a Semogue SOC Mistura - which is a badger/boar combination. The SOC 2 band badger has excellent backbone, but the tips are quite soft, probably not good for the good scrub leaning toward rough bit.

I do not think you can compare the Muehle STF to what you want.
A soft three band silvertip is what compares to the STF. You want something with a stiff backbone, scrub etc. Then I would say a two-band silvertip, or a two-band Finest would be the best choice. If you really want stiff and scrub, a Shavemac D01 two-band knot would be the best choice.

Great advice!! And Rudy knows (really knows) what he is talking about!!:thumbup1::thumbup1::thumbup1:

(Love those Shavemac 2-bands, but that‘s my taste!!)

Of the brushes I've used the Zenith Manchurian is the closest match to your description, but I agree with @Rudy Vey that your description doesn't seem to match the characteristics of a Muhle STF.

I've the Yaqi Moka Express 26mm two band badger. To me it does not feel as scrubby I'd like, and the backbone is also relatively softer than I'd prefer.

Yeah, I've been suggested the Manchurian knot, wanted to be sure it somewhat meets my preference. I dont want the brush to be too lush and with no backbone like the other badgers I've, Yaqi moka express 26mm, Omega 620, silver tip 24mm and the Simpson Berkely 46 best badger. I'll be getting a Yaqi high mountain silver tip 24mm aqua soon though.

I've had the Muhle STF XL 25mm. I just loved this brush, no other has ever come close to my preference. My observation and description maybe inarticulate but I'd ideally want something with the same backbone even if tips not as lush. I'll see if I can get my hands on the SOC 2 band. I'd not mind it if its as good as the Muhle STF,

Yeah, I've not described it accurately, but anything similar to the Muhle STF, especially the backbone, should be okay I'm assuming. I'll try to get my hands on the 2 band silver tip and shave mac before I buy one.

I've been recommended the Manchurian knot on another group, I'm being cautious before I open my wallet. I do like the Muhle STF anything similar or leaning towards a little more stiff hair and better backbone is good with me.

Thank you gents for all your help. I'd also like to mention that the other knot that I liked was the G5C knot, but I'd prefer the STF above the G5C.

The Zenith Manchurian grade will give you a ton of backbone and scrub without breaking your bankaccount.

I would agree with others that have said it's chalk and cheese.

I have the Muhle brush with the birch bark handle in STF, just bought a Badger head for it. Not remotely a like. Don't belive me, find me a synth with a little backbone that will stay tilted to the right or left after brushing the face. Every synth I've used returs to 12 oclock. The only difference is how quickly they snap back but all do.

I bought the Badger head because I love that handle and while I do think the Muhle STF Fibre is the best synth created so far, it's still a fake brush compared to real hair.

To me, my one Muhle STF knot is waaaaay softer than any badger knot I've used and a bit floppy. But in the way they feel on the skin, it's not apples and oranges. It's more like apples and elephants. The difference is even more obvious when I squeeze the knots to clean them. The STF knot fibres feel solid and smooth. Badger hairs feel irregular and porous. I definitely prefer the badger feel, but the STF knot is pleasanter than it has any right to be.

In the way they lather, the STF knot is quite similar to a badger knot. In fact, taking into account different preshave routines that work for different types of brushes, there's almost no difference in results.
