Badger, Boar, Horse... Human?

I've read that Badger & Boar hairs are some of the few types of hairs that, like human hair absorb water. Which leads me to my question, has anyone made a knot out of human hair?

I would think that, unlike with badgers, the hair from the back of the neck would be too soft, but the hair on my head is pretty thick and spikey.

So, has it been done before? How did it work?

Hmmmm :huh: That is something that I actually never thought about. I dont think I would use the brush that was made from Human hair but still very interesting.

I asked this question once and the problem is that human hair is way too soft - not enough backbone if you will. it'd be too floppy, unless, of course, you had a very very short loft

And why not try one? The hair would be a lot more clean than a badger or boar (people usually dont wallow in mud and instead wash their hair every day) I'd much prefer human hair if hygiene was the issue. Besides, you don't have to harm an animal to get it, which is always nice.

I dont know if I could.....just personal reasons that is all.

No need to harm horses to get their hair...

My neighbor boards horses, and I asked him about getting some hair. He said he had heard of brushes before, and that I needed the hair off the tails. Said they trim them every Spring, and get bags of hair they throw away. (One horse's tail almost drags the ground!) He is going to give me some horse hair.

After that, will make my own knot and proceed with the grand experiment. (I plan on mixing with some other type bristle, maybe synthetic or natural, to give it a little more body.)

Stay tuned...

I might try lathering with my pony tail:lol:
Actually I find that Asian people/no racism intended here!!!/have long ,straight and stiff hair.:laugh:In my chemistry class we had a girl from Vietnam and her hair could easily make a paintbrush,a shaving brush,a make up brush...not sure about a toothbrush though:laugh:So I guess it could be possible,if straight and stiff hair is available, but IMO making human hair brushes for the masses will seem just...wrong
BTW,how does a horse brush feel and perform?

Two reasons it isn't done;

1. Too soft.

2. The "Eeewwww!" Factor.

Never underestimate the power of the "Eeewwww!" Factor.

Feel good, perform even better :thumbup: They perform like boar -but bit better, and feel a bit like badger. Try one, they are not only good, but also inexpensive: for about 6,40 usd you have a Turkish horse brush, either with wooden or plastic handle, medium size, 50 mm loft. For 9,75 you have a professional brush (30 mm knot, 60 mm loft, plastic handle). Only brushes I use nowadays.
