B&B Nib journal pass around thread

Fine people of the nib:

This is the "official" thread dedicated to the Nib journal pass around. Any questions or comments should be left in this thread from now on.

I've had some pm's with certain members and the ball is now rolling for this project. Shane ( zethreal ) who I want to thank again for the generous offer to donate it, is in the process of ordering the journal. It will make it's way to Oshawa, Ontario, where it will meet it's first member, Syngent. James has offered to do a cover page, as well as an entry.

I will post the list of members, and how I arrived at the order + some info:

1) I tried to keep the journal moving with the least amount of travel in between. It will travel from east to west. This may change, over time, if members need to change their position due to travel etc.

2) If the journal is getting close and you know you'll be on vacation or have a situation where you need get it at a different time, post and let us know so we can work around it.

3) It will be up to each member to communicate with the person above you, and the one getting it after you. Pm's are the easiest way but if that doesn't work, you could try and post in the thread to help with communication.

4) Please take every precaution to insure the journal doesn't get damaged while with you or in transit. Take a little extra time to insure the package is well packed and padded for it's trip.

5) If you wish to donate something to the auction, please do not include it with the journal. We will figure the best way to do that later on.

6) If you want to send something to the next member in line ( ink sample, paper, shave related etc ) please seal them so that there's no way it could contaminate the journal. ( Ink samples sealed in a plastic bag with.a paper towel etc. ) maybe even put the journal in it's own plastic bag?

This is the preliminary list: It starts with a steward and ends with a steward

man talk about pressure, Im starting to give myself a pep talk right about now

Ill certainly plan this one out before lettings any ink hit the page

I have to say that I'm feeling the pressure, of not screwing it up. If this was my journal I wouldn't care, but I feel like I need to treat this thing with kid gloves because it isn't mine, it's all of ours. I'm not worried about what I will say as much as i'm worried I might spill ink or damage it somehow.

We're all going to be fine, but I did get that wave of " don't screw it up idiot " from that little guy on my shoulder Lol.

Fridays are Fishtastic!
I like the idea of putting the journal in a ziplock regardless of whether or not anything is sent with it. Just an extra inexpensive layer of insurance.

On edit: thanks to Shane for supplying the journal, James for giving it a touch of class (don't worry, you'll do fine) and Christopher for getting the ball rolling. I cannot wait until auction time. I generally can't swing with the big spenders, so it will be nice to contribute somehow.

yes thank you shane! and a fantastic idea rockminer!

I got my FP just in time, now someone call china and expedite the delivery:lol:

did we figure out the time limit/page limit for each member? I apologize if i missed that post.

I figure I'm only going to have the journal for a short time. I"ll get it, do my thing and send it out quickly. I think if everyone has the same attitude, we won't need a time limit, although I think a week would be sufficient.

As for the page limit, I think we need to decide if we want to give the perspective buyer space to use the journal, or if we want to use most of the journal ourselves. There are 20 of us who are on the list. If we each use 2 pages ( front and back for a total of 4 ) that would be 40 pages. I believe the journal is 125 pages ( 249 front and back ) 8 pages are perforated. James will need a page or two for the cover page(s), the overview will take a page or two. So:

125-8 perf.pages= 116
116-4 cover and overview= 112 let's just call it 110

Each member uses 2 pages, that equals 40 pages total, or a little more than a third of the journal.

I'm OK with whatever we all decide is best. Just my .02

That's the same attitude I have about the time. couple days to think/write then off it goes.

I like the idea of 2 page limit (front and back so 4). I believe 4 pages is sufficient and gives the new owner the opportunity to use the notebook.

That's my vote.

I think once James gets the journal, he will be able to tell us how the paper reacts. Bleed through might be a problem for writing on the back of a page, but I saw a Goulet vid, on this journal, and it looked fairly resistant to bleed through.

This is such an awesome idea. The only bad thing is now I'm going to want to buy a journal of my own. I actually started one when I was in Cuba a couple weeks ago, just to keep track of what I was eating/doing while on vacation. Each day took five pages...Maybe I need to write more often so I don't have so many words saved up? :p

Oh and have we deceided how long the journal will be with each member and how much space we are alloting each person to write in?

Cheers,

M.

rockminer gave the best response to that question. I think he is leaving it up to us to come to a general agreement but I like his idea and will be sticking to it when the journal is in my possession.

If you pre write something ahead of time it will be a matter to just writing it into the journal when you get it and shipping it back out
