Aylsworth Apex SS w/ .7mm gap

I have seen a number of posts about the Apex SS with the .99 gap, but not many with the newer .7mm gap. I would appreciate evaluations of the Apex SS .7mm gap from those of you who have tried it. Particularly, it would be helpful to have comparisons to the RR Gamechanger and Rockwell 6, including which of the plate options are most similar to the Apex .7mm. Thanks

I received my standard Apex SS recently.
It shaves a little bit rougher than the Apex AL. The tolerances are no tighter than AL except the thread, and both of them have a blade alignment issue. I think the efficiency is close to Rockwell plate 6 but smother on the ATG pass because of better blade clamping.

Any chance of a pic to show the alignment issue HQC?

I am currently shortlisting razors for a proposed acquisition and the Apex SS Plus was on the list.

You would like to think that such things simply wouldn't happen with expensive, modern CNC razors, but as the owner of an original Alpha Outlaw I know different!

I found those posts to hold the blade in position a little bit thinner than other razors I have. The blade won't be misaligned a lot, but this should not happen on a CNC razor.

I also noticed that the blade is slightly twisted like waves because it is only supported by three seperate points on the baseplate (marked by blue circles).

@HQX thank you for taking the time to post the pictures.

I see what you mean.

We have to bear in mind that DE blades from different manufacturers are slightly different in terms of their dimensions. Razor makers need to account for this. My experience is that posts which are snug with Russian Gillettes, and even tight with Indian ones, can be slightly loose with Feathers.

It doesn't look so bad that it might not be reasonably easy to fix by slacking off the cap, nudging the blade and retightening. Still, I am guessing you will have tried this. More to the point, you shouldn't have to go through that process - it's an annoyance.

I've certainly seen worse (the aforementioned Outlaw) but I agree you are justified in expecting better at this price point.

Your point about the blade support is also well taken. I hope you can still get some enjoyment from the razor.

Your photo illustration show the less then attention to detail workmen ship, said in this day and age with modern machines. Recall looking at the Carves Chris brought to AZ Wet Shave Meetup, all first class quality. Chris said he personally inspects everything he sends customers, all bless, and second go into recycling can.

I sent mine back for a refund as it had the wavy blade. Not sure why he doesn’t put the support all the way across the base plate instead of just three points. Not a great design in my opinion.
