ATG attack help

I've been getting good shaves with my straights. I usually use DE but when I have the time or the urge ill pick up the straight. Don't get nicks or irritation and it gets close to a DFS. But I want that BBS with the straight like I get my DE. Just had my first barbershop hot towel shave and it was the closest by far ever on my neck (but it was a feather disposable, if that makes a difference). My question is I can't for the life of me find an angle to hold/attack for ATG. I do WTG and 2-XTG on my cheeks and all WTG on my neck as even that is hard to use a different angle. Is this even possible and if so how are you achieving ATG with a straight. Thanks and all help appreciated.

ATG is all I do on my neck. I can do it on the rest of my face but usually don't because I get a decent shave with WTG, and XTG.
IMHO, the angle should be the same as it is for WTG/XTG...

Sorry. Though it does stick a little more on blade angle for ATG, I meant I can't find a way to hold the blade and scales properly to even put the edge on my face for ATG. I just tried watching another YouTube video and I think I found something I was doing wrong. I'm holding the scales down towards the floor for all shaving and I just a say geofatboy holds them up in the air above the blade. That may help as it will clear up some space to get closer.

Im trying against the grain. South to north. Just can't find a way to put the blade on my neck to achieve that angle. It feels SO weird as if I'm throwing a baseball left handed. Just can't wrap my brain around it. Gonna try scales up and report back.

I use only my right hand; the left is used for stretching. My grips can been seen in this post.
Thanks so much. This is exactly what I am looking for. My problem was I was opening the blade 45 degrees and holding it. This shows a blade that would be opened 270 degrees so its on the other side. I hope it makes the difference to be able to fit in closer. Ill report back after my shave tonight.

those are exactly my grips on the razor except 2 is just very slightly different for me. my middle finger is on the other side of the scales. great info here guys. thanks for posting this.

Try using your off-hand for stretching by pulling down and towards the outside on the base of your neck's skin.

Alright that made all the difference. Even just shaving WTG and XTG on cheeks. Don't know how I missed that you flip the scales ALL THE WAY around to the other side. Doh! Not only did it get me in there for ATG on the neck it also let me view the blade angle on every surface a lot better since the scales weren't in the way. This is the smoothest my neck has ever been, but its still not BBS. A lot better though and made a huge difference from being disappointed with stubble to being happy with a close shave. Still have to figure the chin out and I did put a good slice on my side jawline/neck from being a little careless on my 3rd pass. Thanks for all the help. I really feel like now I can improve my technique after this hurdle. Big time rookie mistake but this is the kind of stuff I took for granted as normal.

Awesome! Sometime even a wee, little adjustment can make a huge difference. Play with your fingers in slightly different positions and soon enough you will find something that feels natural.
