Assembling 'upside down'

I was perusing ebay & came across an open comb razor and was thinking of bidding on it. There was 1 thing that threw me off though... the bottom part that holds the blade was installed upside down so you can't see any markings. Is this something that could possibly damage the razor head?

If yes, I won't go further with it. If not, I'm going to ask for additional photos.

I believe I saw the same listing. It did make it pretty interesting in appearance :biggrin1:. (I am not bidding on it so no worries), It didn't look damaged to me, My impression was that the seller was just clueless, but then I didn't look that closely as I was more intrigued by the odd looking razor until I realized what had happened.

Thanks. If you were bidding on it, I'd bow out... I have a few various razors, but was looking to add an OC to my collection to try once I have a few more shaves under my belt.

If you are talking about a three-piece vintage Gillette OC, then having the bottom plate set upside-down will not affect the razor as long as the seller has not screwed it on too tightly. i highly doubt it and it was just ignorance on the sellers part, more than likely.
Good luck.

Ah yes, the old "eBay assembly"... For whatever reason, it seems to be shockingly common for people who aren't at all familiar with safety razors to put three-piece razors together inside out like that. It's as if the instinct is that the head should make a clam-shell shape () instead of the two parts mating together like spoons in a drawer ((.

As far as it hurting the razor, no. It could theoretically mar the finish on the underside of the guard plate if they were really rough with it, but if they were being really rough with it then the inside-out head wouldn't really make much of a difference there. It's pretty much just one way of being sure that the person selling the razor doesn't really know much about it.
