ASCO Red box or Ogrange box super stainless blades?

Anyone using the orange box or red box ASCO blades?

About 1 1/2 months ago I read about ASCO (orange box-5 blades) blades in the blade review forum. Because of the review, I decided to purchase a 100, for $20, to try out. I have been shaving with them exclusively for the past three weeks and getting great shaves with a Gillette Black Tip SS (I shave almost every day) They are a little sharper/smoother then my IsraeIi Personna's. I have been getting about six shaves per ASCO blade. I only get about three shaves per blade with the Personna's. I decided I was going to stock up on 200 more of the ASCO blade.

I did a search to try to get a better price on the orange box blades. I found a source in Turkey for the ASCO, red box (10 blades) at about half the price I previously paid, (includes free shipping) for the orange box blades.

The price for the 200 blades I ordered from Turkey was $10.90 per 100 blades. For each hundred blades they will include the gift of an ARKO shave stick.

The blades were ordered from EBAY, Best Shave, ASCO razor blades

I think the ten blade, red box and the five blade, orange box blades are the same blade but I have not been able to confirm that.

Anyone else using the ASCO blades. What do you think? They have been working very well for me. YMMV

Sept. 1, 2010

I finallly got in the 200 Red Box ASCO blades I had ordered from Turkey. The seller included two ARKO shave sticks.

I have been shaving with the Red box blade the past four days. The Red box blades shave exactly like the Orange box blade. I can feel no difference. They (Red box and Orange box) are the smoothest cutting blades I have yet tried. I have been getting six great shaves out of each ASCO Orange box blade. I will see how many I can get out of the Red box. I plan to use the Red box blades for the next several weeks to throughly test them.

I completed my 7th shave with the red box. I got a good shave on the 7th, but not as good as the previous 6. On my face seven shaves with the red box and orange box is pushing the edge.

One thing I forgot to state about the red box blades that I received. They were five blades per box, not ten as I previously thought. Also the sleeve, the boxed blades came in was red. The individual five blade boxes are almost all blue with a red end.

I'm not sure you can call them Red Box. Blue Box with Red end describes them more accurately.

Perhaps the blades I received are not the Red Box that Squire tested. I called them Red box because of the red shipping sleave pictured in the selling ad. This could get confusing with out a product number to differentiate between the higher quality Lords and the lower.

Wow - thanks for that review! :001_smile

I'll have to keep this brand in mind, as it's not in my current sampler pack.

But, I'm not going to order it too soon, as I still have 20+ untried brands in my current sampler! :w00t:

From what I've seen, the only difference between the orange pack and the red pack Asco blades is the blade count. I've used the orange pack blades in the past, and found them to be an amazing blade. Smooth, sharp, and long lasting. Good to hear you found such great deals on these!:thumbup1:

Interesting.. I've never even heard of ASCO.

After a little searching, I guess they are made by Lord in Egypt?

I have used a few Lord 'Platinum Class' blades, but didn't care too much for them.
Have you used any Lord blades? How do the ASCO branded ones compare to them?

I've used several of the Lord brands, and the Platinum Class was at the bottom of the heap for me. The Asco and the Big Ben blades were my toward the top of the list of blade offerings from Lord, and among the top 5 of all the blades I've used. The Lord Racer blades are pretty impressive, as well. I'm on a quest to try all of the offerings from Lord. Oh, wait...I'm on a quest to try all the blade offerings on the planet. I should be finished some time in 2352!

I've got all these Egyptian blades from Lord, ASCO, Big Ben, and Racer:

LORD Platinum Class
LORD Super Stainless Classic
LORD Super Chrome
LORD Super Stainless
ASCO Super Stainless
BIGBEN Super Stainless
RACER Super Stainless (Egypt or not?)

...but I tried the Lord Platinum first and was very disappointed, so I pushed the rest to the back of the test list as I go through my sampler packs...

Your comments are making me reconsider and move them back up in the list!
I think the ASCO or the BIGBEN will replace my Wilkinson Walmart when it's time to go into the blade bank:tongue_sm

Thanks for the info!
Joe.

No wonder we always say "your mileage may vary" on this forum. I just tossed an ASCO orange after only 1 & 1/2 mediocre shaves. I actually had to check to make sure I remembered to unwrap it before putting it in the razor! :tongue_sm

I tried one of the ASCO orange box blades. It delivered an excellent, smooth shave. Felt close to how a Crystal blade does for me; perhaps a little sharper than the Crystal though. I definitely like this blade.
