Artisan Perfume

So, since switching to wet shaving, I have been trying a few artisan soaps and aftershaves. Well, now SWMBO decided she wants me to find her an artisan perfume. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

This place is fantastic. If you're ever in Chicago, you definitely want to visit:

I'm sure you could work with them long distance, but it's not the same as sitting there, smelling all the oils, as they blend a scent just for you.

Some of the best artisan/small-niche/indie/whatever fragrances I’ve experienced come right out of your nation.

On the west-coast you’ve got a lot of people embracing their creativity. Three of my favourite houses are:

  • PK Perfumes,
  • Imaginary Authors,
  • Slumberhouse.

Then away from the ocean air you’ve also got:

  • Soivohle (Ohio)
  • Michael Storer (formerly of CA, now in Arizona)

And a bunch of other houses (with which I'm unfamiliar) listed here:

For a woman to wear, the missus likes Carissa and Pentecost from PK, and I think Violet Disguise by Imaginary Authors would work well, too (but I'm thinking of wearing it, myself).

Timmy Dee,
Thank you for supplying me with the info of all of thaws vendors. I will be spending some time on the web examining them all. Thanks again.

Our own joshmpdx makes and sells his line of fragrances. You can find his website here: http://imaginaryauthors.com/
+1 I recently obtained a sampler package of all of Josh's fragrances and I highly recommend checking his products out. All of his fragrances could be considered unisex; although some may be more feminine and some more masculine, they're all worthy of sampling. They're very well made, original, and interesting. The prices are actually very reasonable for the quality of the product.

Another vote from me for 'not US' artisans goes to a small family that developed a brand called 'Parfum d'Interdits'
trust me, they are real people.

What does she mean by artisan, exactly? Sort of like defining a "craft brewery," I suppose.

All of the suggestions mentioned that know are good. I am particularly fond of Imaginary Authors, too, and I would think it fits the term "artisan." My wife wears IA L'Orchidee Terrible as pretty much her exclusive evening and going out scent and has for a long time now.

CB I Hate Perfume might also fit within artisan. Tauer and Lorenzo Villoresi are both self-trained, I suppose, so they might fit, too.
