Aristocrat Jr.

I've been looking for one of these for a while now and was lucky to purchase one off the BST from Jake. I have a decent selection of safety razors, my favorites being the 40s style super speeds.

I've been using the Aristocrat Jr. for a week or so now paired with an Astra Super Platinum blade and I have to say...WOW! It has by far given me the best shaves I've ever had. It has such a great feel with that extra weight (I weighed it...only 3 grams less than my Fatboy).

I went back to my British flare tip yesterday and it was like shaving with a lid from a tin can (ok not that bad...but not as good as I remember). I think I could happily use the Jr. every day for the rest of my life. That's not to say I won't keep trying to find something better :tongue_sm

Any others enjoy this razor?

Ben

My sentiments completely Ben. I discovered this fantastic model over a year ago on the other shaving forum. My 1st was a somewhat brassed but excellent razor that was remarkably effective, comfortable, and provided the smoothest, closest, and most comfortable shave. I have seen very few go on sale over here, which must be why my posting -- which you picked up on -- seemed to generate so little interest.

But those who discover these excellent razors will appreciate their great design and wonderful shaving ability -- the archetypal shaver. (It's also not so precious as the rhodium or silver plated razors so feels like it could be used daily without harming the finish or investment.)

Any other fans of the Aristocrat Jr.? What have you found that compares?

Well said, Jake - a fantastic razor.

It shares the solid baseplate and essentially the same head as some of my all-time favorites - #21 and #16 Aristocrats to name two. Whereas the #21 for example has overall heft, the Aristo Jr. is head-heavy because of its standard, Rocket type handle. The resulting head-heavy weight distribution makes for a super smooth shaver which practically mows through stubble on its own.

Psst...although I have sold two Juniors on BST, I have held back one with bad plating issues with the plan to have it replated as a daily shaver. Awesome razor! :thumbup1:

I love my well-used Jr. - some brassing, but a great shaver! I also have a near-mint one - sold as a Rocket in Canada, in a Rocket red plastic box (controversial notion, but I'm not making it up)! I use the lesser of the two & hoard the new one.

Do you have any photos of the Canadian? I never knew there was a Junior made outside the UK. It would be interesting to see the pics.

... I just picked up a Aristocrat Junior in Blue Faux leather box. Razor looks in almost unused condition and I simply cleaned it with dish liquid and a toothbrush.

It was the best shave I have had so far - much nicer than my Merkur Vision.

Oh yea, It is a british #53

The American made, as in USA made, AJ was in a box labeled Aristocrat Junior, but although it has a similar handle as the British made version, does not have the same head as the British AJ. The unique design of the AJ, like (as Texbilly says) the #16 and #21, is that solid plate under the head. The USA version of the AJ does not have that style head.

In fact, were there any non-UK made Gillettes that had that unique head design? And isn't that the real advantage of this designed razor?

Any comments from the user as well as archivist community?

Thanks.

I want to see him too. I´ve never heared from a Aristocrat jr. Made in Canada.

I have one of these as well.

The razor is made in England.
Case made in Canada.
Blades made in the US.

It most definetley says Rocket on the red styrene case.
looks the same as a Super Speed case.

Yes, this is what I have. I'm sorry I wasn't clear.

Controversial, as per MTGRayling's "Rocket, the Refined DE."
