What's new

Are these blades any good?

You can always search for DE blades in the search bar. There are also sub-forums for most things. You will find that blades are a must try and come to you own conclusion about your experience.

what works good for someone else, may not work well for you.

Many on this forum have set it upon themselves to try as many blades as possible until they find the best balance of comfort, cost, and number of shaves.

you then must factor in that the same blade that you find as the best in you EDwin Jagger May not be good in a Slim or Slant. The list goes on.

So, if you get good shaves, like the cost, and can find them close to home so that you don't have shipping, then stick with them.

However, are for a little enabling, how will you know what blade is perfect for you and your razor if you don't try all of them?:001_tongu

I understand. These just sound like a good deal. I searched and found only "vintage blue blades" which I don't think these are since they are new from a retailer. Was just curious if anyone has tried them.

OK, honestly, I have never used a bad Gillette blade. If these are truly legit, they are a good risk, at that price, IMO.

They are currently on back order I have 300 on order right now, don't know how they shave but for $8 I gotta give them a try.

I'm somewhere in the 3-4 months in on this, and I can definitely say that if you are really brand new at this, look around for a blade sampler pack where you can get a bunch different common blades, and try them each out for a week or two until you can tell which ones work better and which ones leave you bloody. I am only now able to tell, since in the beginning they all cut me. Maybe I'm a slow learner. :D

Interesting. I missed that thread. There are a number of others on that blade. Some love it, others not so much. Here are a few:

At the price, I might take a shot. But clearly it is a risk.

Although I remember hearing Dr. John sing a blues song where he threatens to cut someone's throat with a "super blue blade" so for that alone, I'd say go for it.

Since they appear to made in China, they may be counterfeit. I don't know if Gillette has any factories there.

But even counterfeit blades can provide a good shave. I prefer coated blades over stainless steel, but there's lots of guys that like the SS blades, too.

At $8 a sleeve, they're certainly cheap enough. I think you should just order 100 blades and try 'em out first. Even 100 is going to last you a long, long time. And if they turn out to be bad blades, you'll only be out a little bit of money.

But if you're just starting out and not sure what your beard will like best, you'll do better to get a sampler pack from one of the many vendors here like WCS or Bullgoose.

I would say try Astra, Polsilver SI, Feather, and the Russian Voskav or whatever.

Astras are pretty cheap, pretty sharp, and ok in smoothness department plus well liked.

Polsilver SI have a big following, don't care for them myself but others say they are sharp, smooth, and last a while. Not cheap

Frathers, my favorite and I have similar skin and beard. Very sharp, smooth for me, I get 5 shaves you may not, are getting cheaper.

the Russians, I have never tried but many love the Teflon smoothness and durability.

That said, try them all!

These are made in China by Gillette.

Yes I agree that these are not the vintage blades that others are referencing. They say China right on the blades.

Either Gillette opened a factory in China or someone else is making knock-offs. Either way, somebody should try them!

Edit: looks like some have already, thanks for those links The Dean.
