What's new

Ardbeg "Supernova"

I just got an e-mail from Ardbeg telling me that "the planet's peatiest dram" is now available in the U.S. Anyone tried it?

Is this a new malt from Ardbeg, or just an ad for the existing Ardbeg?

I've tried the regular Ardbeg 10, and it seems similar to Laphroaig; quite peaty.

I hate to burst your bubble Pat but I got a release showing who's getting some. It looks like Illinois or NY are the closest to you.

Honestly, I found the peat a little bit overwhelming in the Supernova. Mind you, I love the Laphroaig Cask Strength and never shy away from the peat. But in the Supernova, it just overpowers the subtleties in the Ardbeg. For the money, you're better off picking up a bottle of the Uigeadail.

Just tried the Ardbeg 10 a couple of days ago for the first time (and loved it), and have been reading a lot about this and the Uigeadail, both are now on my wish list!

The Ardbeg 10 is really nice, isn't it? The Uigeadail is on my wish list as well. It's supposed to be great.

It is very nice indeed, so much that I have been drinking it every night since I got it, and I usually do not drink in working days...

Would you mind posting a full review? I'd love to know all the details. How does it compare to the Arigh nam Biest?

Pat, I will be in Chicago next weekend. If you really want this stuff, (or anything else) shoot me a PM and I'll hit up Binny's.

Tim,

The release notice I got just lists the South Loop Binny's at 1132 South Jefferson St. as the only location in Chicago to get some. I'm not sure which one you were planning to go to but you may want to call if it's another location just to make sure.

Although, that said I've walked into Binny's when I was Chicago without coming out with at least 2-3 bottles I didn't plan on buying so I'm sure you find something good whichever one you go to.
